assuming all our midfielders are fit, who's the odd man out? ramsey, wilshere, ozil is the most talented on paper but is a bit light on. none of those players are "pivots", they all like to shift around alot. i feel more comfortable with ramsey, arteta, ozil, and santi floating in off the left.

for a few reasons, i can see jack riding the pine a bit this season.

There will be plenty of games to go round, especially with Arteta's injury. I wouldn't worry about playing time for Jack.

He does look like the odd man out though.

Wilshere will be eased back in. His situation is becoming worrying, to be honest.

Wilshere looks as if he can't stay on his feet when tackled and he seems to get tackled a lot, he also appears to be injured anytime he goes down.
Whether that's because he fears it, or feels it, I don't know.
It disrupts the flow of his game and his contribution.

He'll benefit tremendously from having the pressure taken off him this season.

I wonder if, now that we have Ozil and Flamini, it may be a good idea to play him wide for the immediate future. Take him out of the mixer for a bit until he is back up to speed. See no reason why he can't play a Cazorla type role from there for the rest of this season and then assess him once his fitness pushes on.

if giroud gets injured, i can see theo moving central and jack playing on the right

Plus, with Chamberlain and Podolski out until christmas, we have spots to fill there.

cazorla and wilshere out wide could be a little like rosicky and hleb in that narrow 442/4141 were playing in 07/08. lots of energy and ball-playing ability in midfield, and ramsey providing penetration that we otherwise lack.

I have a feeling that with both Giroud and Walcott in fine form, Jack will be benched and used as a sub rather than starting wide.

Think it'd be rather unfair on our two main strikers to drop either of them at this stage, and dropping Cazorla entirely would be mad.

feel like we were saying the same things about Rambo after he came back from injury. We just need to be patient with him, which should be easy with world class talent in the midfield

This. I've gotten the bad-Ramsey vibe from him and think he really needs to not play the same kind of role that Ramsey did when he was out of sorts. Ease him back in, slowly. He'll come good, but not right now. Thankfully we actually have options in his position unlike when Ramsey was playing AM.

Big difference is that Ramsey didn't keep getting niggles and setbacks. He came back strong all things considered.

I feel like it's very common to incur a series of mild to moderate injuries after a big layoff though.

Yes and in such circumstances it is equally common for the player to be a write off for 2-3 seasons before full recovery, which is why I said that Wilshere's situation is becoming worrying.
