Travel is too expensive within Spain. Huge country, poor alternatives and a working class population. There's the matter of the match-day income too. Much like the television deals there's no sharing. The home team bags it all, which means you're effectively paying your opponents to support your own team aside from everything else. This is why so very few Atletico Madrid fans can be arsed to travel across town to the Bernabeu.
Like I said (before I accidentally deleted it) it's a corrupt league. The whole system is inherently flawed on a level that makes every other European league pale in comparison.
