Madrid's pressing shape is dreadful. Sevilla bypass the initial phase so easily and then they're right at Madrid's back four. Sevilla's #20 wasted so many attacks with poor passes.

Illaramendi is a fantastic passer of the ball and can organize Madrid's attack, but defensively he's nowhere near the level of Alonso.

yea there's way more contact in my recreational coed leagues. it's a bit of a joke, these are grown men, professional athletes - it's ok to be bigger, stronger and faster than the other guy.

United were much better in the 2009 CL Final than they were in the 2011 CL Final. Pressed Barca off the park in the first 10 minutes, they weren't expecting it and Guardiola said as much. But for some heroics from Valdes, they would have been down a goal.

Pretty sure SAF also said in his book United were better in the 2009 final.

Man United indeed had the better of the opening minutes, but after that it was all Barca. United were taught a footballing lesson.

Man United were far longer in the game in 2011.

I think that team was far reliant on Messi. Pedro and Villa were nowhere as good as Eto'o and Henry were for example.

But it doesn't really matter, let's agree to disagree. Otherwise we'll end up hijacking the thread.

Disagree completely, but even if that were true, you can judge a side based on one match. Far more pressure on the Barca team in 2010/11, had to deal with a much improved Madrid and all the Mourinho nonsense, after a WC for the Spanish player, etc, etc.
