Confirms here the injury happened during the Chelsea match, he complained of soreness in his knee. Strange we got the German team to look into it rather than ourselves but am guessing we thought it was something minor so were happy for him to travel.

It was reported yesterday that he had not trained with the squad, I wasn't overly worried because it was mentioned that Schurrle also remained behind so I thought it was because they'd both played on Sunday.

I bet it's statistically safer for footballers to go on this hiking trail than to train with our first team.

The club will make further assessments and it is too early to say how long Ozil may be out of action.

I reckon the club aren't happy about the German national team making the "10-12 weeks" thing public. We might've tried to spin it to cause less panic.

I can picture all the papers that were begging for Ozil to be dropped for weeks suddenly framing him as some sort of hero and claiming arsenal are now in "crisis".

Considered opinions based on an educated knowledge of all the facts regarding the injury will be pretty scarce over the next couple of days.

Lessens the panic, allows time for a santi/wilshere to prove they're good enough in the position so after 3 weeks when they say there's been a complication or whatever, which has extended the time out, the average fan cares less.

This is a knock type injury not a overuse one.

The German Fa have the right to call up injured players and assess them. So it's normal that ozil went there to get assessed. He was probably leaving to fast to get an mri here. A partial lcl injury
Would need an MRI for accurate diagnosis.

Man U are in the middle of a physio overhaul they've just added the Southampton physio this week.

This may allow the manager to gamble on others stepping up as you put it but that's not how i see it. Cazorla, for example, is a top class player in his own right and doesn't need the protection of Wenger lying about how long Ozil or Diaby are going to be out in order to perform. The time frames issued by the club have become a running joke nobody believes so we end up with the original question.

It reduces panic/increase morale etc amongst the fans, I imagine there's a lot of things that happen at the club that stay between the staff and not made public.

The club are always reluctant to commit to timeframes until they have completed all tests and assessed results.
I thinks it's a bit paranoid to suggest that they are likely to lie to avoid panic or to allow other players to prove that they are good enough.
The club's primary concern is always the player, and they are hardly going to tell us what the issue is before further investigation and discussion with Özil himself.
