I see him as a CF, too. Doesn't have enough unpredictability to play out wide. All the attributes you want in a top class modern striker.

I’m all for this. Use the Lacazette money to sign a Koulibaly. Makes so much sense.

Haha, the gamble with that is Auba then agitates for a move and we're left with the same situation Man U have had all season: no recognised striker.

Let's be real, it's gonna be bloody difficult to find anyone nearly as good as either of our strikers in the market given our current standing.

It's gonna be really tough to find someone who scores 12 league goals every year to replace Lacazette.

Lacazette is deadweight on away games. Numbers don’t lie.
If the team continues to build more coherent attacking patterns and we create 17 chances a game like we did yesterday then we are fine with someone other than Lacazette up front. It can be Martinelli or Pépé. The key is the unblocking the pipeline.

On Aubameyang, I’m willing to take the risk, knowing we have monetized the inferior striker (and hopefully turned him into a high quality defender or midfielder). We need to take big gambles to make the team better now and stop trying to solve the unsolvable Laca-Auba riddle.

I'm convinced there's more in Laca than he's shown for us. Since he's joined, he's had to do a hell of a lot more work to link our front line and our midfield together than I think any of us would have expected. That's not playing to his strengths.

I'm definitely guilty of cutting our players a lot of slack though, so happy to accept he may just not be good enough although my inclination is that he can bring some of the finishing from his box play from Lyon to our team in the right set-up (ie. a functioning midfield).

I was mostly teasing Don. Laca's not my favourite player but I don't think it's a good idea either to sell someone in January who's a starter, or thereabouts. I think we have enough problems without having to make it even more difficult for ourselves.

Feel like we should have been a little smarter in hindsight. When we loaned him out initially I read that Chelsea were burned badly by Leeds and the lack of playing time last season with a couple of loan deals and resolved not to deal with them again. Stuff like that should set red flags all over the place.

Mind you, I’m glad that we’ve got a recall option unlike those moronic year long deals which we could not cancel out of principle or whatever.

Definitely. I think there was also the added motivation on Leeds part to ruin things for Bristol City last summer. Eddie was almost done and dusted for Bristol when Leeds caught wind of it and decided to get involved. They sent Victor Orta down here who's a personal friend of Emery, he got a late audience, and after he talked up Leeds and Bielsa for a couple of hours Eddie was suddenly going to Elland Road instead.

I don't blame Arsenal or Emery, but I think it's obvious in hindsight that part of Orta's motivation was to burn a promotion rival. He either knew that Bielsa didn't really want a player like Eddie or he didn't consult him at all. Both scenarios reflect poorly on him. We had a whole procedure in place to determine what the best move for Eddie would be and we still ended up getting duped. Does any other club get swindled by Powerpoint presentations this often or is it just us?

That’s quite cynical, Klaus. A simpler answer might be that Victor Orta genuinely valued the kid but Bielsa was more committed to that brute Bamford.

I really hope we bring him back. Wenger was far too willing to allow teams hang onto players even when they weren't playing just because he'd agreed to it. We were misled by Leeds so now its time to take him back and either give him minutes here or loan him somewhere else.

If we offload one of Laca or Auba in January, then would rather we recall Eddie and use him for the 2nd half of the season as he can play centrally or out wide. I like Martinelli, but from what I have seen of him so far, his future is at CF and would prefer he gets more minutes in that position.

it's not an or situation. laca needs to go in jan. auba in the summer.

Monetize Laca. Do that and I’m happy to extend Auba. At £180k he’s an affordable scorer. Just monetize all those defenders and midfielders.

auba is too old for a rebuilding effort and probably deserves better.
