De Gea reminds me so much of Almunia. Yuck. Why would you put him in a compi with those other two?

Nice bit of insight into Szczesny's life back home. Robin is still my favourite Gunner off the pitch though. The cinema interview is a good watch/read.

De Gea is quality. He saved Utds bacon this month in like 4 games on the trot.

De Gea doesn't command his defence like Szczesny does or make himself dominant, but besides that he's got the makings of a great goalkeeper.

He might have saved their bacon recently, but he's also cost them a bunch of times. Have a feeling he'll continue to do so because of his jittery presence and failure to deal with high balls. Dude shits himself every time a cross comes in. So much of being a great goalkeeper is mental. Don't fancy him in that area at all.

I think too many goalkeepers are called great because they are great shot stoppers. There are very few, if any, in this League I'd personally call a great goalkeeper.

No one ever claimed he was great but that is the only thing he has going for him.

It's the GK attack on all threads... on one the GK lurking like a cat for a bird, on the other Buffon jumps between threads to deny he's in decline (and establish superiority over Casillas) 🙂.
They're all good. If our Chez establishes himself in that level, we'd all be very happy. We had Almunia like till last thursday - easy to get used to a good thing.

I don´t understand how anyone could ever, under any circumstances, place Casillas and Buffon on the same level. It´s like saying Messi and Aguero are on the same level. Buffon has been injured a bit too much over the years, but that is the only thing Casillas has on him.

IMO Buffon is still the best goalkeeper around that I see on a regular basis. Wouldn´t trade Sneezey for him mind! 🙂

I would say De gea is a good shot stopper with excellent reflexes, his problem is dealing with corners and and commanding/communication with others, basically a very good version of almunia.
