Let's put in a unique performance-based clause that reflects the fact both clubs are contending for the same Champions League place next season.

Wenger's next offer should be "Ok, we can see Suarez is important to your league challenge this season. So just to make it fair, we'll pay you £35m, plus Arsenal's gates and winnings from the Champions League in season 14-15, minus Liverpool's Champions League income in season 14-15."

In all likelihood it'd work out to around £50m, but with the added bonus of slapping Liverpool in the face and insuring ourselves against the distant but not negligible possibility of them surpassing us this year.

Plus I'd like to see the Rodgers meltdown if we did make that offer.

Don't think it will even be £50m; that is too big of an increase depending on what that contract actually says. Rodgers was obviously given a good brief by the club lawyers and that's why he keeps going on about market value and player x went for this much. c.£45m is probably a decent amount for all concerned.

I don't think so. I can't think of one example of a player that desperately wanted to leave his club but was then forced to stay with a succesful outcome for the club.

However, I can definitely see Liverpool dragging this on in the hope of Madrid swooping in and/or have time to find a replacement which will be extremely difficult for them seeing as Diego Costa has already seemingly turned them down.

If he has a shit season doing fuck all because he doesn't care then liverpool won't be getting £40 mil and will have a guy that is toxic to the dressing room. I would rather have RvP fighting for a year than a stroppy suarez around the dressing room creating tension while running through his contract, either way we will have to increase the offer and come to an agreement where they can save face.
