Consider of course the prices paid for Canai, Falcao and what's being touted for Bale. Relative to the 'footballing' market basically.

I would say he is worth £40mill+ Cavani & Falcao went for _£55mill but those guys have been banging in goals for years. Suarez hasn't which is why he is worth less.

The Bale thing is just stupid, great potential there but the price tag being thrown around is mental.

Didn't Cavani and Falcao fetch _£55m becuase both had release clauses that triggered those sales, and luckily for Atletico and Napoli two new insanely newly rich clubs have entered the market.
Even City and Chelsea baulked and spending that kind of money on them.

Tbf Suarez isn't a out and out striker and his goalscoring record throughout his career is pretty impressive

I would bet Suarez has scored more in his professional career than Cavani has, don't remember him scoring all that much for Palermo. Not much between them in any event. They're comparable players in terms of value and productivity on the pitch. Wenger's addiction to discounts (even if its for damaged goods) is stronger than his moral standards it seems.

You're right! According to Wiki, Suarez has 190 goals in 327 games, Cavani has 153 goals in 285 games, and Falcao 187 goals in 282 games (for club).

If we miss out on Suarez, do you guys see a desperate £34m bid for Jackson Martinez to activate his release clause (or somebody else)?

He is just going to 'keep the powder dry' if we miss out. Maybe pick a couple of sub 10m bargains if we are lucky.

Yep, no need to panic EB theres plenty of time, especially if we qualify for the CL.
We shouldn't get another August ass raping in the premiership as we don't play Utd till November, that might make some of the clients and sponsors nervy but they can squeal all they want, and if the worst comes to the worst and it looks like Spurs might nick our 4th place we can always panic buy in January theres plenty of money. :egg:

we should just do a 45m pound bid this week and try to end this debacle. we are so far in, it were easier to seal the deal than start the season empty-handed.

my big fears for the Suarez deal lie around the Bale deal.
i. if the deal fails, Real might bid for Suarez and beat us
ii. if the deal happens, Spurs might make a massive bid (eg. 55m pounds) that Liverpool agree to and then we have to match in order to secure Suarez.

Suarez wont want to go to Spurs though. That is a much more lateral move than coming to us. He wants CL football, we have it, they don't. Its that simple.

the point is not if he would prefer to go to Spurs... but that an offer from Spurs that is accepted might raise the price we have to pay. his agent might, for example, encourage Spurs to bid to at least get Liverpool to move on accepting an offer and truly making him available. these are the games that agents play - United is potentially a victim of such games with regard to Thiago and Fabregas.
