Apparently Stevie G said in the England press conference that he didn't know if Suarez was gonna stay at Liverpool, but he was very confident he wouldn't be sold to another English club.

I'd rather they take it to the wire and get what we need than make some more Podolski level signings. They effectively have two weeks to get big deals sealed before moving on to simpler targets.

He obviously believes we need a striker that's a cut above our current lot, but it would be in line with his quality at the right price principles if he were to deem that, outside of Suarez, there's no striker available who'd be worth a big investment.

We all know how arduous are transfer deals are; how can you expect us to sign big names in two weeks? I realize other clubs start to loosen up their no-sell stances as the deadline emerges, it's just the quality of players we need usually don't come available in this period.

The reality is that these big deals should have been taken care of early.

It's a lengthy process for other clubs as well though - the fact that neither Madrid nor Chelsea have tied up deals for Bale or Rooney is some indication that selling clubs are in no great rush to part with big players.

If you can't spend money on Suarez, don't waste it on Gervinho. Wenger and Gazidis are not stupid. They know Suarez wants to come and must believe that Liverpool can be worn down.

If you have an open mind it seems reasonable to assume that he's looking to buy a better class of striker given the bid for Suarez.
