Probably true that Cazorla is marginally more effective in the middle, but from what I've seen Bernard, at this stage of his career, is nothing special. The likes of Podolski and Walcott would be far more effective over a season.

I don't doubt for a second that Bernard would play plenty here but, if he is looking for a place where he is guaranteed to play when fit - Arsenal isn't the club for him.

I might look back and regret us not going in for him when he's seemingly available, but I can't say I'm at all bothered. Quite glad we didn't splash out big money on him.

I agree. I think he's quite a player overall, but I think he lacks a defined position and I would much rather prefer we spunk out the extra cash to get an El Shaarawy, Reus, or Draxler. I would like us to have a true winger that produces out wide rather than another CAM playing out wide.

That's true, but he switches flanks often and he's in the middle sometimes as well. That's why I'm not sure whether he's a attacking midfielder or a winger.

The three names that you mentioned aren't strictly wingers either, Reus plays in pretty much the exact same way from the little I have seen of Bernard.

I agree though, I think a deal at something like £13m plus performance related add-ons would have been good (allowing for a few million either way). At £20m you start to look for more guarantees and certainly at 25 you are edging towards the region where one would expect absolute top class rather than a Cazorla understudy.
