Suarez is a much better player though. Not sure Wenger is willing to go that high for Costa.

Nobody else was after Suarez though. I imagine 2 or 3 other top teams will be after Costa as well and i definitely wouldn't bet on us winning that battle.

Why is it every time we're linked with someone the standard response is that 'everyone' will be after them and will offer record sums of money when in reality that rarely happens, except perhaps when PSG are involved, but I can't see them being in for a striker anyway.

Only PSG really wanted Ozil from what i can remember. I'd expect Chelsea to go after Costa pretty hard and probably get him. Maybe City too.

yep, just emphasises how little we have spent and how weak we've been in the transfer market.

until this season, liverpool was in serious danger of permanently falling out of the top 4 and into the tottenham/everton/newcastle tier due to their financial handicap compared to us, chelsea and the manchester duo. once they get anfield redeveloped, we will have serious competition.

It happens whenever we set our sights higher than the likes of Gervinho. Mata and Goetze are 2 glaring examples recently.

In neither situation were we blown out the water by loads of bigger clubs. It was our own refusal to spend money. Actually Goezte didn't even move until two years later, Dortmund just didn't want to sell so I'm not sure where that came from.

Well theres the goal posts shifting now. Almost no big player is subject to "loads" of clubs making formal bids. It isn't football manager, deals are discussed behind closed doors and agreements are made. The fact is we have often been gazzumped by better offers from other clubs.

It's not shifting the goalposts, it's actually one of the points I'm debating. We could have signed Suarez, Higuain, Di Maria and did Sign Ozil last summer without any of that happening. The only competition we had for any of them was for Higuain and even then I'm fairly certain if we wanted him we'd have got him.

I guarantee you that you'd have seen the same sort of comments about Santi, Podolski or going further back the likes of Arshavin and Nasri.

Anyway back on topic, we're gonna win the league.

you want a striker who scores less from open play than Giroud in the last 20 months honestly. Many of his goals are from the spot.

25-30m for an extremely unreliable player. No thanks I'd rather Giroud and that's saying something. It's a testament to his off-field behavior that none of the big clubs are likely to bother even looking at him this summer despite Milan being where they are.
