Statistics aren't totally useful here. Had we had a runner there is little doubt ozil would find them. The lack of runner means there are no such opportunities. He's not just going to knock it in space for the defender to get there before giroud.

He's having to play sideways balls to guys like Cazorla instead of playing through balls like the one he gave to Chambo in the build up to podolski's goal against Liverpool

Ozil rarely managed to pick out Theo so the idea that if we had a runner Ozil would magically have become amazing every week is a bit hard to buy.

Yep, it was Ramsey and Wilshere who were aware of Theo.

Ozil and Theo barely played together. Either way, Walcott was more than capable of making the difference on his own, regardless of Ozil's form.

I don't think statistics are of any use in this situation at all.
I only brought it up in reply to Gunner's post saying that Özil was statistically the best creator in the league, or something along those lines.

Özil has some responsibility to find a way of playing effectively with Giroud.
He's skilled and clever enough to do so.
I agree with qs - Özil should not be limited to being a through ball specialist.

I think the argument now remains as, Suarez would have won us the league, Ozil wouldn't.

Both are top world class player, but one can do everything himself, the other needs everything to fit.

Exactly, no other team around us has had the injuries we've had to deal with this season. Theo & Ramsay this season have been our most productive players and it isn't any coincidence we've looked a lot worse without them

Saying that I do think some of our staff is to blame with the number of injuries we get, for years now a fair few people have said our training and conditioning methods aren't up to scratch. Something which seriously needs to be addressed because it has been costing us for years.

Ok, so we are out of the CL and we can put the FA Cup on the back burner for a while so back to our league challenge.

Now, is it fair to say if we want to win the title that Spurs away, Chelsea away and Man City at home are all must wins?

I still think Chelsea will win the league but they play one of their boegy teams (with Newcastle being the other) on Sat so any points lost will make our game v Spurs even bigger.

Lets hope Utd beat Liverpool too.

I'd go further than that to say we need to win 9 of our last 10 games, not exactly an easy task with the opposition we'll come up against in the next 5 games, but these sort of runs are what usually win a team the league.

We've more or less got one game a week from now until the end of the season, that should help. Knowing we've got the FA cup to fall back on should also help.

Basically every PL game is a must win now. Hopefully we don't get dragged into a fourth pace fight.

We are not winning the league. In my eyes it is between us and Pool for the third place.

I know it shouldn't really matter apart from having to play the annoying (and potential banana skins) qualifying games for the group stage CL, but that aside, it'd piss me off if we finished below Liverpool. Being the best of the rest (non financially doped teams that can't buy £30m bench players) is a very credible position for me. Liverpool, as a club, have the most annoying characters around. I don't want to have to admit that they're as good as us.

Aren't Liverpool basically financially doped as well? But they spent much of their money on crap buys like Downing and Carroll? Anyway, the reason they're are a threat is cause they have nothing but the premier League to worry about. Their small squad will probably have difficulty coping with Euroball next season.

They have the Mkhitaryan money from the summer plus additional transfer budget plus if they finish 3rd more money off the guaranteed CL income

That seems like the truth. Liverpool seem (atm) to be better than us. So I will say that 4th is our destination.

Of course mathematically we CAN win the title, but we just aren't are we?

I will leave the "there are still 10 games to play" to the younger posters here and hope that they shut this old git up.

The FA Cup has got to be won.
