Franco banned Catalan saying 'it is just a dialect of Castellano', which to him was 'proper' Spanish and the language to unite the nation. Not even Franco could claim that about Basque. 😆

It's both legally a nation (and a nationality) under the Spanish Constitution, has autonomy, an administrative boundary and its own language / dialect. Saying it's not a nation is like saying Scotland's not a nation really.

Not really, have you ever lived in Catalunya or the Basque country? If not, you're unlikely to understand what Barcelona and Bilbao represent. Especially if you're unfamiliar with Spanish history, notably the oppression of the 3 main nationalities.
