Its terrible. Fifa can fuck off. I hope theres a massive rift between FIFA and all the federations about this. I imagine the big leagues like the PL will not be pleased at all.

I can see Fox sports going after FIFA too, they bought the rights expecting it to be in the summer. The date change will mean that the world cup will be on during the football, basketball, and baseball seasons. It potentially clashes with the superbowl too. Bound to affect viewers and ad revenues.

In Sweden the football season has always been between April and October, roughly. I have to say, it makes a lot more sense to me that football is played during the summer when people are free from work and the pitches are at their best.

It's not "terrible" though Qs. It's the same number of matches played in a different order, except not in the Qatari summer. It'll be a mess but it's not the apocalypse.

The PL administrators are a bunch of cunts just like FIFA so who really cares what they think? They'll have their little boardroom stoushes and the universe will roll on.

Having the season up ended for a World Cup at the wrong time of the year in some god awful country is terrible.

Sure we should have just allowed the USA have quarters like they wanted in the 90s, its still the same amount of minutes right?

You can't see any positives in having club football seasons between March and November? Personally, I suffer massively from 'proper football abstinence' every summer.

Sure Qs, and while we're at it let's widen the goals as well, football's a bit low-scoring.

It's the World Cup—it's good if it's played in the Middle East at some point, and if it is it's always going to be fucking hot if it's in summer.

Sure it'll probably totally fuck up the transfer window and preseason for 18-19 but predictability can be boring. International football isn't my favourite but the league has gotten a bit robotic in recent years.

That's true, Klaus. I just like the fact that it will force Europe to change the structure of the season once, and in a direction I think is good. Who knows, maybe more people will see the positives of playing football in the summer on top pitches?

The scheduling will fuck up the league for a few seasons, no idea how the african cup of nations will deal with it either.

EDIT: Reckon the solution will be like for the ACON actually, national FAs will refuse to change league scheduling, clubs will be forced to release their players during the season so that they can go to the world cup. Top clubs will lose most of their squad for about 2 months, meaning that fringe + youth players will play senior games during this period.

West brom to win the league in 2022 or something insane like that 😆

All the top nations should just boycott it and hold a 'friendly' tournament in England that summer that effectively replaces the WC.

Well I'll take one of the points you made and throw it back to you, pitches. While in Sweden they're probably better in the summer in Italy, Spain, Portugal and even the likes of France they'll be worse from the heat and dryness. Then you have the players trying to cope in the summer heat (the same reason for this Qatari debacle). Also traditionally people take their holidays in the summer, not great for a season ticket holder. Generally there's more to do at the weekends in the summer. Without the football the winter would be even shitter.

Aye, we play football in the summer here for practical reasons, same as everyone else. Southern Sweden is okay all year around but you can't play between november-march in the North because the grounds will be frozen and the temperature drops too much. It's not because people have time off from work in the summer.

Changing the schedule for a single season in Premier League and other European leagues would be disastrous, for logical reasons. You'd still need to fit those games in there somewhere without pushing into the next season and thanks to the World Cup the players will need more rest in-between. Playing the tournament in november is an absolutely ridiculous suggestion, but it's going to happen all the same. It's been obvious since Qatar bought the World Cup. You can't play in 50 degrees celsius so the alternatives are to either play by night or move the tournament.

That is a ridiculously simple solution :o

Makes so much more sense, only 3 hours ahead of GMT in Qatar too so it might even be better for american and south american markets, wouldn't disrupt the European television market much either.
