Being in charge of a rich and powerful club like Arsenal is easy, you don't have to be a great tactician it doesn't matter what style you play you just buy the right players and you should win a few trophies- It isn't rocket science.
But we both know Wenger won't spend the money required, he refuses to adapt his ideology and tactics to events as they unfold, he's a fossilised relic of a former time.
You're a idealist Asa, this player is shit/that player is not good enough for Arsenal- Of course you're right 99.99% of the time but where does that lead us?
I hate Wenger as much as you but I'm more of a pragmatist- We both know that players like Flamini aren't ideal but I believe that with him on the pitch we can avoid repeats of the 8-2 defeat which is a distinct possibility with our thin squad.
Players like Diaby Rosicky and Fabianski are a waste of time and I don't even consider them anymore.

I see. Well, I know you have a bit of affection for Matty. For me, I don't begrudge him leaving in 2008, but I don't hold any real soft spot for him either. Without that, For me, if we signed him, it'd be just another example of a Wenger sticking plaster fix, a bodge-job when a long term solution could have been found. When I see a player like that, I find it very hard to have any affection for them - Gervinho, Eboue, Denilson, being a few examples among many. Flamini would be just another.

Aww we know it's all fucked up, we know he's not capable of anything better than a sticking plaster.
We've just got to avoid more humiliation till Wenger is gone, we play Tottenham is two weeks- Matt is a player with plenty of spirit like Jack who in my opinion can do a job.

Anyway I don't want him wasting any money it's far too late for that, I just want him out of our club.

Tottenham Birmingham Liverpool Swansea Portsmouth Wigan have all won trophies since we last did.
None are bigger clubs than us.

Biggus essentially just said that all that matters is the quality of your players and said quality corresponds directly to how rich (and powerful) you are.

Besides the point that it goes against everything he preaches endlessly, I would like to know his solution to the obvious problem.

Nah I meant any average manager (like Wenger) can win a cup or two if he throws enough money at it not rocket science.
To win the PL (or CL) is a whole different thing, you need money tactical astuteness and luck.
I know you don't rate the domestic cups but imo they do serve an important purpose- But thats another discussion.

at the end of the day, for at least the last 20 years, winning has been about having the most money. but if you do have money and don't spend, then you're not aiding your cause. that Wenger could've gone out against Villa with a squad worth 50-100M pounds more and didn't is just criminal on his part. he's an idiot.

If spending money was all that mattered United wouldn't still be ahead of City and Chelsea.

If you look at transfer values of the players on the books, United is usually not far off from Citeh and Chelsea. A lot of noise is made about the largesse of Citeh and Chelsea just because they are the new kids on the block, but people forget that United were spending 25m pounds on players before it became fashionable.

They are at least close enough in squad value that Ferguson had a platform to take advantage of his superior managerial skills and win trophies.
