I reckon Carvalho looks slow due to his size, but from what I have seen he isn't slow at all.

since when are deep midfielders needing to be quick and agile? matic, carrick, schneiderlin, j martinez, busquets, kroos, schweinsteiger, alonso, cesc arent the most rapid guys around but theyre pretty good midfielders. id say positioning, distribution, and size are what we need. pace and power are a bonus, but youre pretty much asking for patrick vieira if you want a player that ticks all the above

Well, you need a Vieira to compete at the highest level. The guys you just mentioned aren't pintsized, but they are mobile and have both tactical and technical qualities beyond their physical size. I'll bet everything I own that Carvalho will never be mentioned in the same breath as them. And that's based on watching him look like Charlie Adam's brother for both club and country. He's just a large wall who knows how to get in the way of the ball.

From what I've seen, Carvalho doesn't look slow but lacks stamina to keep going, similar to Song.

well obviously, but that guy isnt out there, and if he is we probably cant afford him.

fyi i wasnt saying william was the answer, i was questioning kels point that we need quick, agile midfielders. youre echoing what i said about positioning, size, and distribution/technique being more important. mobility is less important than positioning/awareness for me.

Add sterling (who would definitely start) and we have an excellent team with excellent depth.

Sterling is a talented player who looks to have a bright future, but he is far from the finished article. We already have enough developing players in our first team squad; I am talking about players like Bellerin, Chambers, Chambo, Welbeck, Wilshere. I think we would be much, much better off signing a finished article like Reus. Funny thing is, that Liverpool will probably ask for a similar fee as Dortmund will.
