A lot of them were going mental when the Moyes announcement was made. Then the next day they were saying how he was a good choice. They're embarrassing, nearly as embarrassing as Arsenal fans who want to sign Rooney.

Quite embarrassing that some Arsenal fans are too precious to want us to sign a top quality player because...errr...he dived and won a penalty against us and scored a bajillion goals against us.

God job for Utd that they welcomed RVP with open arms. Now they're champions again.

I don't really get it, I don't like the guy but he's insignificant on the Arsenal hate radar. It's not like we're talking about Evra, Neville, Keane or Horseface.

He has great stats, no doubting that. And even though he would definitely improve us, for the cost of his wages and his general physical condition (and his disgusting personality) I would not like us to sign him now.

Someone younger, hungrier, and more dedicated is what I want from our forward signing this summer.

I don't like him personally, and I don't like him because he's a Manc, but I think it's a high risk signing anyway.

He'd be hugely expensive, and off the pitch he's a fragile, anxious character who needs a lot of support. I'm not sure he's capable of thriving at a club like ours and for the money there are undoubtedly preferable options.

Well for starters his quality is in question at this stage IMO. And quality and talent are not the same thing. People get too caught up in a players talent and ignore all the other factors that make for a great player. Rooneys a nightmare of a player. Before you lot started wishing for him here I was saying Moyes was lucky Rooney wanted out because United are a lot easier to manage without him there. Sell him and use the money to replace him and they'll be much better off. The same thing goes for us in terms of signing him. If you want to spend that sort of money and wages it'd be a terrible signing.

Apart from that he's just one of the most detestable players in the game. Why would I want him sullying our beloved club. And for what? Maybe a few goals? He's not going to turn us into champions, he's not at that level.

So what's your view of Utd in the 2010-11 season and then the 2011-12 season?

The guy is 27 years old and has consistently been one of the top 5 players in the PL for a good few years. Rooney has a great work ethic, plays with a lot of heart, runs more than most, has great versatility and is the complete striker. He scores with his right peg, his left peg, good in the air, poacher's goals, wonder strikes, freekicks, finesse goals - you name it. He also has great vision and is an excellent passer of the ball.

I don't particularly like the guy but - there aren't many attacking players out there better than him, especially if he is to be the focal point of an attacking unit. Signing Rooney would IMO be one of the least risky investments a club in England could make.

2010 he was on strike for months and ended up with the same number of league goals as Giroud has now. Hardly a major part of why they won the title. Berbatov and Chicarito were their main goal scorers that season.

The point is Rooney isn't worth a building a team around. Fergie realised that years ago. In terms of a transfer it means Rooneys not worth anywhere near his cost.

A very safe signing. You know what you'd get with Rooney. Not a fairweather player at all - he's just a fantastic footballer that guarantees you a high level of quality. But this is so obviously not going to happen so its ridiculous even talking about it.

Utd didn't win the title in 2010. Rooney scored 30 odd goals though and lost out by a point.

I take your point about the 2011 season.

Last season he scored 30 odd goals as well and lost out by goal difference. I don't think building a team around him is the best when you have Ronaldo but when he's been the main man he's delivered.

2010 being the start of the 2010/11 season. When he was on strike. Nothing to do with the season ending in 2010.

And yes he's scored a lot when he was made the focal point but they were also the seasons United didn't win the title. The balance was off. Fergie realised that and got Berbatov, he didn't really settle so he got RVP. Its pretty obvious Fergie didn't like having him as his main striker despite his goals. Fergie did it before with RVN too, got rid of him despite his amazing goal scoring record because it wasn't right for the team overall.

And this season Rooneys stats are worse than Theos.

I was talking about the 2009/10 season when he was the main man and then the 2010/11 season when United won the league. But you're right, Rooney was on strike for the latter season and scored few goals.

agree with this, though some united supporters seem to think his level of motivation isnt what it used to be, and his ego is huge.
