For some reason im starting to think we will not make any signings this summer. Ox will take all of Gervinhos minutes. Sanogo will be backing up Giroud. Sagna can fill in as 4th choice CB if needed. Ramsey is now a starter, Rosicky and Jack will come off the bench. Diaby will be back by x-mas also. Sorted.

Apparently he also mentioned that Fabregas will stay one more season, and that we do in fact have the first right of refusal.

From those words (especially his quote that eboue posted), it seems like he's setting us up for another groundhog summer

He said pretty much the same thing last July when asked about signing Cazorla

"No [we are not close]. Maybe we will sign a Malaysian player!"

I take today's comment as code for saying that we'll announce our major signing around August 5th.

Do you honestly believe that Wenger would just call it a day with the signing of Sanogo? It isn't even a remote possibility, and it's highly likely (in my youthfully naive opinion) that we'll break our transfer record this summer.

Yes, there's a lack of choice but sometimes you have to make your own choice, if you get what I mean. Do you think Fabregas or Van Persie were "available?"

We have let go of a LOT of players and it would be weird if we just signed 1 striker and a GK. We need options out wide, we are light in the midfield and even need to sort out the CB issue with Vermalaen out for 2-3 months.

YET we are not being linked to any such players. A bit strange and worrying if you ask me.

The Monreal signing came out of the blue - seems that Arsene is serious when he says they are working behind the scenes, wouldn't be surprised if our eventual signings are players that aren't on the rumour radar yet.

Well I think we all know Wenger well enough now to know that this is what will most likely happen.
There is almost zero chance that he will spend large amounts on one player who as he is so priced we will all probably know, no- much more likely he will spend modest amounts on someone we've never heard of.
Not that thats necessarily a bad thing as Wenger has a rather poor record with more pricier players and of course theres no guarantee he'll be a success anyway.

He's perfectly capable of a big gross spend on name players. Cazorla, Podolski, Giroud−not exactly unknowns. Not too sure about big name departures this summer though, that still worries me slightly.

Err at present day prices I wouldn't exactly call those players big money signings.
Wiltord Jeffers and Reyes were big money at the time.

Tbf then the problem really is that there are not enough quality players on the market. Strikers who are/were on the move this summer: Falcao, Cavani, Lewandowski, Ibrahimovic, Tevez, Suarez, Rooney, Higuain, Negredo, Jovetic, Benteke, Villa, Gomez, Aubameyang, Osvaldo, Damiao (and this is the right time to stop because last 5 are clearly not an upgrade for us anymore) ...

... from all of those who are still available we only seem to be linked with Suarez. Is he a smokescreen or a real target? What if we fail to get him? Who is there after this list? Someone who media has no idea about.
