I wouldn't call any of them mediocre, whether or not they'd combine into some sort of lethal strike force is another question.
Benteke doesn't fit the description of average for me.
Christian Benteke
I'm sold. Would rather him than Higuain in any case.
Ball is in Dick Law's hands now
He's my first choice. Wenger would improve him as a player too

I think the fact that affordable players, like Benteke and Papisse Cisse, are flying under the radar of Wenger, highlight the fact that he has lost that edge in the French transfer market. I don't see how, as a scout, you could deliberately pick Gervinho and Giroud over these two.
asajoseph wrote:He's got an awful touch, is really slow, and a poor finisher. He's not terrible, but he's not a project either, at 26 years old. It's hard to understand what we saw in him that made us settle on him.
fairly cheap, no one else wanted him and he wanted to come here. the easiest/laziest choice.
If that's all it takes, I could be an Arsenal player too.
Little wonder we have so many shitsters.
Benteke and Michu was cheaper.
Seriously its come to a point there are so many able strikers out there I would get rid of Giroud and bring in 2 new strikers.
Didn't Giroud claim Bayern were interested in him?
But they had the good sense to wait, watch the Euros and abandon that mad idea
They wanted him instead of Mandzukic but he chose us...
Talk about dodging a bullet.
Now they are gunning for a treble!
Just goes to show how difficult scouting is.

Odd examples, neither are French nor were they playing in France before Prem teams snapped them up.
Tell you what though, you get much more time to shoot in Germany and that is one of Giroud's main problems here. Lewandowski, for instance, suffers from a similar problem.
Anyone else think Benteke looks a bit dim on the pitch? Got that impression in a couple of Villa games last season. Think he'd score a lot of goals here (obviously more than Giroud) but our build up play wouldn't be much better than its current low level.
You are right, Macca. Didn't bother to check but you get my point which still stands, i think.

Cisse played for a few Ligue 2 teams before moving to Freiburg. I don't think those examples show Wenger is losing his dominance over the French market but perhaps a few of the other lads at Newcastle do. Sanogo will see Arsene back as French market overlord though!
I don't think Wenger still has dominance over other clubs in the French League.
Arseblog needs a better translator.
Benteke did not say anything at all about Arsenal in the interview.
Ooops, correct link added this time
