He'd only 10 when I made that post. Around the same as Giroud at the time. A lot of players have a decent half a season. Benteke has pushed on since then even while Giroud has stood still, both figuratively and literally.

If we're not signing a big name then we probably couldn't do much better than Benteke. Has a season in England under his belt, already at a good level and only 22.

Hmmm thats a bit pricey. He'd have to come in and score 25+ to be worth it.

I valued him at that because he's currently just 1 behind POTY on PL goals scored and 1 ahead of Michu.
Considering he's playing for a relegation threatened team that really is something

Depends on what you want for your money, I suppose. He's got some raw skills. Wenger could turn him into a great centreforward. Not sure it's going to happen next year though. I wouldn't be comfortable heading into another season with Giroud and Benteke as our only strikers.

Ye y va when you're paying that much you want guaranteed quality. Apparently Benteke's form has suprised those that saw him in Belgium. So you have to try and guess whether this is just a great season for him or his emergence as a top player.

He has a lot of potential, but I agree that right now he isn't better than what we have. Signing him will be a gamble, he could turn out like Eto'o or turn out like Adebayor. If we can't get a more established player, I'd definitely go for him.

If we wait and he does well then he's out of reach. Like it or not these are the sorts of risks we need to take. And this one isn't all that risky.
