Not really.
Jovetic
I really haven't a clue as to how good he is - the youtube clips look mildly impressive. Is this really too good to be true?
Good player and would be a welcome addition, but he's not a world beater. I'd say arshavin was a better player when we signed him
technically excellent, can finish and create, good physique, experienced for his age, huge upside. this is about the maximum level of signing we can make imo. the cavanis and falcaos are beyond us.
For those who are familiar with him, what kind of player would you say he is similar in style to?

Woah there Jazz.
Did you expect him to hit the heights he did and become an all time great for the club? I personally didn't, I knew we signed a top player but he was struggling in Italy and there was no guarantee he was going to take the PL by storm like he did.
This is a good move for Jovetic if true. If we stay stuck in the mire than we are in, he'll leave in 3 years having been turned into a top quality striker under Arsene's tuition. Smart lad.
Let's just hope he doesn't see us as a stepping stone.

Jovetic could be one of the best out there. He's got an insanely good first touch and excellent technique in general, got some power to him and a cracking shot. If he develops properly, he could become as good as Bergkamp was. If he doesn't, he'll still be an excellent player. No down side really.
Forgive my cynicism, but I don't believe the story that this has been wrapped up at all.
Me neither, I'll believe it when I see him.
No one believes it, don't worry.
Indeed

He was one of the biggest name signings England had ever seen when he came here.

When we signed Henry & Bergkamp we didn't realise they would hit the heights they did as well. Henry was struggling in Italy as was Bergkamp, I remember my mates screwing about Henry because he wouldn't be as good as Anelka according to him but we all know how that turned out.
I don't know anything about Jovetic but if Wenger is willing to spend big money to get him I'd be inclined to believe there might be something about him. Wasn't he heavily linked with big clubs before he did his knee in?
Bergkamp was a big name when we signed him. I remember I couldnt believe we actually signed him that summer how high his reputation was.
Yes, he may have struggled at Inter but he for his national side he was outstanding, esp at Euro 92 and his record coming up in the ranks at Ajax was amazing too.
It would be the equivalent of us now signing Snjieder.

I'd agree but when we signed him did you think he would have the kind of career he did at Arsenal? I was over the moon when we signed him but that doesn't mean I thought he would become an all time great for the club and become one of the best players in the world.
Also back to my original point we have no idea what kind of career path this guy will follow. Who expected RvP to turn into the player he did when he was 23? Too early to say anything about him. Especially as we probably won't even sign the guy....

I was a young man when we signed him so like most I couldn't quite believe it when we signed him so I'd agree in comparison to Jovetic he was a massive signing. Speaking to my older cousins who were keen followers of serie a (by that I mean watching Football Italia on Channel 4 religiously!) and said they weren't sure whether he would be able to do well out of a more comfortable environment like Holland and national side.

Vucinic probably of the current ones out there. Rooney without the tenacious, physical streak perhaps.
I think he could turn out a little bit like Agüero if he gets more predatory. It's hard to tell where he'll end up at the moment because formations and systems have changed a lot in the last decade, and they seem to continue to do so. He's a player who was made for a system with a second striker. Would have been a neat Bergkamp understudy in the Invincibles.
I would rather we got Lewandowski tbh
Me too. He plays off the last defenders shoulder more often.
As good as jovetic can be, I'd worry he'd drop deep too often and clutter it up
Or even Wilfried Bony. If we do get Jovetic it should be to play on the wings or behind the main striker but we need a pure goal scorer more.
Wenger might turn him into a goal scorer, he has a habit of doing that...
Don't think the question is whether he could or not. It's whether we'll get the best out of Jovetic's gifts that way. Loads of players can score goals with decent backing. His talents are rarer than that in my opinion. It's a tricky player to find a good role for.
