Cazorla lack the talent?
Jovetic
Loads of great players have never won player of the year. Cazorla and Podolski are, pound for pound, in the top tier of footballers in this country.
There's no need for this to have gone on for two whole pages.
We all appreciate that Jovetic is a good player but when you are talking about statement signings and showing that you can live with the big boys, he isn't your man. It doesn't mean that we need to make a 'statement', I have never believed in that, but signing Jovetic won't be some sort of short term tonic for the fans woes and he is well within our grasp.
It's not like we'd be signing someone insane like Ibrahimovic for example.
The thing is this is as big as it gets for Arsenal. If people think we are going to bid for Falcao, Cavani or Higuain they are deluded. If we are looking at a big striker signing in Arsenal terms these are probably the biggest names realistically we could go for and even then we'd probably have to break our transfer record to sign 2 of the 3 below-
Villa- Old age but lack of first team opportunities. Reasonable fee.
Jovetic- Big talent who should IMO hit top gear sooner rather than later. Could see him hit top gear after a season like Suarez.
Lewandowski- Great link up man, technical, decent finisher and last year on deal which expires 2014. The last factor just about gets him into our price category.
So yes these are about the biggest forward signings I can see Arsenal make in the summer and signing one of the two latter IMO would be a coup. Lewandowski should really be our top target but if we get Jovetic I'd be pretty happy as well.
You're right, Cap. There is no need for you to continue this "argument." Some people are excited, you're not, and you don't think they should be. Fair enough if you want to be a buzz kill.
David Villa would be a very big name signing IMO. I tend to think of it from a players' perspective, and if a bloke like David Villa rocked up to the training ground I'd be all like: "This shit just got reeeeeeeeaaalll!"

You can be as excited as you want.
It's still a fact that Jovetic is not a big name player. That's not a criticism; I would have been delighted if we had signed Reus when I said to and his profile was even lower at the time. I didn't claim he was a coup or a statement though, that would have been ridiculous...

So David Villa would make a statement of intent but Jovetic would be a better signing?
I can't predict the future, Clarence.

Obviously but given that he turns 32 this year I think it seems sensible to have made him a January target given lack of available options but in the summer I'd prefer either of the 2 others I mentioned and then Villa. I hope Wenger is thinking ahead because getting at least one of the 3 is very possible if he acts early.

I guess you'd call surez, bale, and falcao big signings
Suarez and Bale are probably the Premiership equivalent of Jovetic.
Also, if we spend 30 mil on this Jovetic fella he'll become a household name overnight. The fee has a lot to do with it I feel.
Defo want him
No point getting David Villa now. It would be much better to make a real investment in a younger(but still established) talent like Jovetic. If he's the type of player many have described him as he should work really well with how our attack is develping with Wishere, Cazorla, Poldi, Theo and Giroud.
Can't see Wenger going for Villa in the summer, can't see that he'd spend in the region of £30m on Jovetic either.
May not have to if none out of City, Chelsea, United or Spanish two are in for him.
He'd really shift us up a gear if we did get him though.
Wasn't Mancini making noises about him replacing Balotelli.. think he might end up there... Still hoping by some miracle we can steal shaarawy off Milan.
I don't why people get these pipe-dreams which are not going to happen. Milan paid 20m euro for el sharaawy and would want a considerable profit on that. We haven't yet spent even their initial investment on a player let alone the price with their profit margin.
Have to dream sometimes. El Shaarawy would be phenomenal
Last pipedream I had was santi cazorla
Well then it's Messi or Bust :\
Looking the bidnaaass tonight
