ARSENAL are hoping to beat Barcelona in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels.
The German is a wanted man, as Manchester City and Manchester United have sounded out a move for him, although neither have firmed up their interest with a serious offer as of yet.
Hummels is only 24, which suits Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who wishes to continue his policy of buying younger players to help them develop at the Emirates.
And a defender is on Wenger’s list of priorities, as he wants his side to tighten up at the back if they are to challenge for trophies in the future.
Spanish football site Fichajes has it that negotiations are already underway between Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal, and the Gunners want to sign him up as soon as possible.
They also note that the asking price is likely to be £17.6m, which may be steep for Arsenal even though they have a sizeable kitty to splash out on players.

Hummels has started all of Dortmund’s Bundesliga games this season.

If that really is the asking price, we'd be plain stupid not to buy him.

That is a bizarre number, to say the least.

I'd throw in an extra 400k as a tip.

No Messi, no care.

Stopped reading here.

Once again:
Hummels
vs
Cavani
vs
M'Vila and Villa

(not equivalent financially, but take your pick)

Why would Dortmund sell? And why would he leave them for us? Makes no sense.

Why do you keep doing this? 😆

Exactly Dragan! We cannot attract the best anymore as we no longer have a selling point (attractive football).
We are treading water, as we have an unambitious board/manager, so established players looking to win titles, no longer consider us, imo.

Because, I want to guage what people want. A great defender? A great striker. A very good (possibly great) striker and very good midfielder. I want the great striker.

A great striker who can create for himself and put away any balls that roll past him can save you on days when you can't string two passes together (which is most of our first halves). However, the other options also provide great value for this team.

There was that rumour that Wenger was in Germany this week...

Not realistic, this rumour.

Just ping out big bids left right and centre and see whats open n what ain't

Initially that read like "big birds left right and centre out to open what aint"
