Saw "Monsters" last night - recommended. Offbeat romance with giant squid-creatures. Did telegraph the "Fortress America" theme just a tad.

So did they basically rip the Departed off Infernal Affairs; especially with the shrink?

My main gripe was that it wasn't longer hehehehe. I thought it was class and a brilliant ending.

Saw Unstoppable, yesterday. Really good. Exactly what you expect, and as someone who loves Denzel in almost anything he appears in, I loved it. Apparently it's based on true events, too.

Also saw London Boulevard, the other week, seriously good film. Colin Farrell is brilliant in it. Recommend it highly.

Didn't they make a god-awful runaway train flick with Piers Brosnan a few years ago?

Like most Denzel Washington films, the advertising never really makes me want to go and watch them. I usually do, though... For every John Q there's a Man on Fire.

I've seen it both ways and I thought that the sub missed a few elements during the lengthier discussions but they did a good job overall.

Yeah, The Departed is basically a re-make with a few elements of the third infernal affairs move thrown in, the shrink for instance is far more prominent in that one.

Apparently The Departed sequel will follow a similar story to Infernal Affairs Three but with Mark Walhberg as the central character, it could work but I thought that was the weakest part of the infernal affairs trilogy by far.

Had some tickets to a preview of this a couple of weeks back but couldn't make it; really looking forward to catching it and glad to hear that it is good. How would you rate it in comparison to man on fire?

I don't recall that. Only disaster movie I can think of Brosnan in is Dante's Peak.

Weren't sure about Denzel's last film, The Book of Eli. Not one of his best.

I wanted to see that one, mainly because I thought the subject matter sounded quite interesting. Haven't got around to it yet.

Just looked up the Brosnan film - Death Train (imaginative title!!!). Made for TV, which would explain a lot...

Similar sort of emotional attachment as you get to Denzel and Dakota fanning in Man on Fire. Although not quite as deep, it still draws you in enough to genuinely care about what happens to the guys in the end, which I think is important. As you'd expect most of the action is good, some real edge-of-your-seat moments. Denzel and Chris Pine worked really well together, too. Played off each other nicely.

Maybe not quite Man on Fire good, but then I really rate that. Unstoppable is one of those films where at the end it seems like you've only been in the cinema 20 minutes. Good fun.

The other one I quite liked was Deja Vu.

Took me ages to get around to watching it, because the bloody trailer just made it seem like Hollywood pap. Really glad I watched it in the end though.

Same here, and it is interesting, but I don't think it's all that well done.

Made that Death Train in 1993, was James Bond 2 years later. Some leap.

Looking at his films, is Lawnmower Man actually any good? I've heard it mentioned, but have no idea what it's about.

Denzel Washington and Tony Scott is a winning combination (although pelham 123 wasn't that great).

It's a shocker, especially now when it's CGI sequences are obsolete.

Yeah, Deja Vu was really clever.

That's when he's at his best I think. When he's a cop, or something similar, who's a bit of a rebel, smarter than the average bear. Kinda like his character in Inside Man, love him in that.

I'm always shocked when people say they don't like American Gangster, I thought him and Crowe were brilliant in it.
