Kevin Bacon was excellent, especially as the mad doctor. Unfortunately, when he took on the more 'supervillain' persona, he ceased to become that interesting. Plus since he was practically a demigod, they had to cheat to kill him and it made the fight a little lame.

Saw Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans last night. Great film actually, very funny, one of the best performances I've seen from Nicolas Cage (god he's hit and miss), just generally engrossing.

Also re-watched Blue Velvet, but that's a bit passé.

Bad Lieutenant was quality and the sort of role I wish Cage would test himself with more. Less of this Drive Angry nonsense.

Nic Cage is a method actor who reads from an acting recipe book while he's doing his thing.

Nic was at his best with Face/Off and The Rock and 8mm.. back in the mid to late 90's.. most of his films since (National Treasure aside) have not been great

Bad Lieutenant was really good, very enjoyable performance from Cage.

Cage is always great (read: bat-shit crazy). It's the films he's starring in that are of varying quality.

His best one is Adaptation, by the way. Then Bringing out the Dead.

I would agree with this.

Watched The Prestige for the second time last night. It's one of those movies which get even better with second viewing. Thought it was great the first time I saw it, but this time, knowing what was actually happening, allowed me to focus on a lot of details which had gone amiss during the first viewing. Fantastic cast as well. Michael Caine was classy as usual and Christian Bale is one of my favourite actors at the moment.

Bale, Bale, Bale. I watched The Dark Knight for the 3rd time. By the end I was almost in tears , moved by the brilliance of the story, and the haunting performance of the Joker. What a villianous character. This joker wasn't some over-the-top eccentric. He was an unhinged and unsettling psycopath.
I really hope the Dark Knight Rises is at least half as good.

Hasn't Nic cage been struggling for money for a while now? That's why he takes on such bizarre films? Season of The Witch was the worst film I've ever seen at the cinema.

The Bad Lieutenant will always be Harvey Keitel to me.

I rewatched Ang Lee's Hulk tonight. Easily the best comic book movie ever made. Tragically misunderstood. It's up there with Brokeback and The Ice Storm among Lee's finest achievements. What an absolute behemoth of a film. It would have been a masterpiece if it wasn't for the weak ending and that crap scene with the dogs. The way Ang Lee uses the premise of the Hulk to deconstruct the american family and depicts the ruined relationship between Banner and his father as the real process where the monster is created is just brilliant. It's such a beautiful film too from an aesthetic point of view. The CGI is a bit hit and miss but the clever shots, the scenery, the colors, the split-screens... there's so much substance, so much thought behind it. The opening montage is jaw-dropping.

I liked it (alot actually) but I thought that the end 'boss battle' was mishandled and poorly judged.

It was really poor, just like the scene where the cartoon-looking dogs are hunting Banner's girlfriend in the woods. According to Ang Lee the entire production was one big fight for creative freedom. I guess he won some and lost some. He did a great job putting it together though. I like the one with Norton and Roth that came a few years ago too, but it pales in comparison to Lee's version.

Klaus, I thought I was one of the few who really liked Ang Lee's Hulk. Excellent movie.
The Norton movie looks like a joke next to that one.
Visually what would have been great would have been the graphics of the 2nd movie in the 1st one.

Just watched the last hour and a half of Heat. Absolutely brilliant film.

Hour into Arlington Road on BBC one, seen it before but it's an absolutely brilliant film.

Cannot stand Cage. He's a mediocre actor that has been treated by production companies as a second-tier actor. He went to my high school as well. He also lived down the street from my friend for a while. I guess one year he sent their family a whole raw salmon for Christmas.

The shootout in Heat is the best shootout I've ever seen in a movie.
