I thought it was decent until the final battle with that monster which took ages. Could have easily cut an hour of the movie. These third rate directors should get a message taped to their trailer door which says "don't make 3 hour movies, you're not Sergio Leone".

I though Eisenberg, like most of the cast, was pretty good. Its just a big mess in terms of its structure and all the character motivations. The Martha thing was just laughable. The action was just passable too, nothing surprising or interesting about it.

Not sure if it quite fits the criteria but I've been meaning to see Leon: The Professional again. Great movie with Jean Reno as the hitman, a young Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman.

Saw a French film called The Intouchables recently - thought it was excellent. It's about a wealthy guy who is a quadriplegic and his carer who is from a different social class entirely. Lots of humour and pathos, and manages not to stray into schmaltz.

Also saw an Italian comedy called God Willing about a heart surgeon trying to demonstrate that the local priest is a fraud. It's also pretty good.

The followup from the same directors / actor is Samba, Asterix. Thought it was actually better than Les Intouchables myself, but similar blend of social comment and schmaltz.

Batman vs Superman, some extended special director's cut... 3/10. Shit film; both predictable and simplistic.

Watched 'Only Lovers Left Alive', its superb and i cant suggest it enough. It also has a great OST and i have been hypnotized by Yasmine Hamdan.

I watched Best of Enemies last night which is about William F. Buckley Jr. and Gore Vidal arguing with each other. Its very entertaining but I'm not sure I took much more away from it than that. Also a much more compelling conflict than Superman vs Batman.

@marv Yeah, love that film and yeah, that woman, my God. Great singer. It's not a very substantial film but it's got a few strings to pull on, Swinton and Hiddleston are very perfectly cast, and the soundtrack is exactly my crack. Think I previously posted the epic slowed-down version of "Funnel of Love" in the music thread.

Chaser - Decent Korean flick. 7/10
Cold in July
Counsellor - Stylised hollywood crap.
Salton Sea - Very watchable movie - 8/10
Swimming Pool - Interesting psychological thriller. 9/10. Sort of a David lynch lite. Enjoyable
Kajaki - Cool/gripping british war movie based on real life events. 9/10
O Brother where art thou - Coen Brother. Enjoyable
Shifty - Decent brit crime drama. Well made
Mistress America - Typical Noah Baumbach. Sort of ok
Magic Mike - Meh. watchable
Pain and Gain - Left it halfway. Okayish. Reminded me of Burn after reading. Will probably finish it later
Akira - Japanese classic.
