An acquaintance of mine has gone through the process of dying from a brain tumour over the past couple of years (he died two months ago).
The condition changed his personality quite dramatically, the therapy he received had an awful debilitating effect - and didn't work - and the long drawn-out arrival of his death was excruciating for his partner and his closer friends.
And that was a brain tumour regarded as "operable" when first diagnosed.
On the other hand, he was alive, he could talk, play games, get around a bit, and go on relaxed holidays during this period, right up until the last few months.
