Just watched Moonrise Kingdom. I'm not very objective when it comes to Wes but I thought it was bloody great. A little miracle of a film. Some aspects of it reminded me of The Fall, oddly enough. They don't have much in common in terms of story or narrative but both films offer a view of grown-ups and their problems through the eyes of a kid who has a sense of what it's like to be an adult but can't fully comprehend that world.

I think you'll love it, y va. I suppose some of the criticism will focus on Anderson's obsession with his usual themes and aesthetics and call it predictable, but it's only predictable relative to the rest of his repertoire. No one else makes films like this.

Saw Prometheus.

Stunning visually. Enjoyed it from start to finish. What else to say? Go see it. No idea why there's so many complaints on the imdb.com message boards.

The Raid is good. My only criticism (and I'm not a fan of the genre) is that the fight scenes were too long.

Thought Prometheus was overhyped (unsurprisingly given it's probably had the biggest advertising budget for a film ever). Good film and visually beautiful (as with all Scott films I've seen) but didn't have an edge on Alien. Probably could have been a longer film as it felt like things moved a bit too quickly for them to be savoured/taken in.

Decided to see Prometheus in 3D after all. It really pains me to see such brilliant visuals wasted on such a nonsense script. The story, from the creationst main character right down to where they left the ending (all that was missing was a "To be continued"), was fucking stupid. I was concerned about Lindelof's involvement on forehand and sure enough, all of his usual trademarks are there. His childish obsession with religious imagery gets very boring very fast.

Saw Moonrise Kingdom and I did love it. It has real heart, warmth, charm and melancholy.
I read it was criticised for not being engaging - didn't think that at all.
The kids who played Sam and Suzy were excellent, absolutely spot on.

I haven't seen Moonrise Kingdom yet. Bret Easton Ellis (about as white as it gets in his own right) described it as "the whitest film ever made". Based on Wes Anderson's previous output, of which I'm a fan, that may be fairly accurate.

I just hope it deviates enough from the style of Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic and Darjeeling Ltd ... they were starting to get a bit predictable.

Prometheus isn't out until Thursday here. I've seen reviews ranging from high praise to disgusted backlash a la Klaus to digging-through-disgusted-backlash-and-coming-out-the-other-side-to-preemptively-label-it-a-neglected-masterpiece ... no idea what I'm going to think.

I really enjoyed Prometheus too. Although I can see why there are complaints regarding the dialogue, it didn't detract too much from my enjoyment of the film. Solid 7-8/10 film for me.

Seeing Prometheus on Friday. Just coming off an Alien 1 and 2 marathon as warm up. 🙂

I re-watched Alien last night as well Rex 🙂

What a movie. Incredible direction and art design. If Prometheus is 1/10th as good it'll be worth the price.

I also watched Alien yesterday. Incredibly, Jo thinks Prometheus was better but (despite not being a particular fan of Alien on two previous viewings), I really "got" it this time. What I once found a bit boring and tedious, I now find suspenseful and a little bit terrifying. What was Captain Dallas like, eh?

And on that note, over the weekend I watched a documentary about the Alien anthology, which had Ridley Scott talking about how he removed footage of Ripley finding Dallas cocooned at the film's climax as he thought it slowed the movie down. Yet, we watched the Director's Cut version yesterday, and that scene was in it. Which I found a bit odd.

Can't wait to revisit Aliens though.

I read up on the Director's Cut quickly and then decided to watch the original cut.

Scott claims he added in all the unused footage they could find, then decided it was bloated and cut shit until it was a minute shorter than the original. Refuses to admit (in the quotes I've found) that he thinks it's superior to the first cut.

Going to go and see Prometheus this weekend I think.
