Van Persie proved recently that you don't have to be super-pacey in order to get into goal-scoring positions. Villa may not be as good as him or Berbatov in deeper positions but he has footballing skills good enough to be a good fit there. On the other hand, his composure, finishing quality and movement can still get us 20+ league goals in a season which I would definitely not mind.

But, yes, I can't see him lasting for more than two seasons. But, I won't expressly mind him coming in and us getting a two year window to invest in a top striker who can be available at an affordable price.

He's not the ideal choice, but, also not someone I'd scoff at.

You have to take into account PL is much different and you need to adapt to it. Jovetic is far more likely to adapt, he can hold up play and is relatively strong. Villa meanwhile after his injury has really gone downhill. I have seen his past few games and really isn't impressed.

I'd take him if nobody else is coming though.

If we sign Villa, even under a best-possible scenario, we're going to still be very reliant on Giroud.

Villa would have to start left for us. He won't do much at point in the Premier League, not at this stage of his career.

Not a joke at the time of their height.

As strikers they had very similar stats.

Used to love Eto'o but when we were linked to him people commented on his age, wages and attitude. Not too dissimilar to what we're hearing now with Villa.

Yeah I prefered Eto'o too. But the comparisons weren't jokes. They were legit because of the goal numbers they came up with.

Maybe, but there's more to football than numbers. Otherwise we'd be rating Gomez up there with Messi and Ronaldo.

If Villa moves here no chance is he playing on the wing. Wasted at Barca there but gets by as they have so many chance creators and it's a less physical league. He isn't pacy or powerful and his dribbling is below average for a winger. He would be useless here as a winger. He'd do decently as a striker for about 1-2 years.

Well numbers are all important, but obviously you have to perform analysis on the statistics and put it into context. For a start where a majority of those goals come from.

Because we play exactly the same system and he is in his prime. Yeah seems legit.

His first 18 months at Barca he played mainly from the left and was very good. He's also been outstanding from the left frequently for Spain. Since his injury he's been inconsistent wherever he's played. That might be exclusively down to his physical decline, might be cos he's been in and out of the team, might be lack of confidence, might be cos he doesn't fit with Messi, I don't know.

He only played the one game on the left and that was against Chile. Rest he was upfront alone or with Torres.

Nah, every game Torres started Villa played left. And most of his most influential games and moments came playing left or from the left. His worst game was probably the final when he started though the middle.

Playing "left" for a team of Spain's possession shouldn't be support for playing "left" on our current team.

Not entirely confident of Villa doing anything of note in our own half....

I would only take him if he comes for free. Paying any kind of transfer fee, let alone over £10m is ridiculous. Im actually convinced this is a bs rumour.
