I would have to argue that he has not been better since he broke on the scene at Everton. For me that is when he stopped developing.

He was just a porky kid with some raw attributes back then.

You would have to think that Rooney could have done more regarding his physique over the years, but there is no denying he is a cracking player. He certainly isn't 'just' a porky kid.

I despise the fucker but I think he's a more important footballer today than he would have been if he'd focused solely on himself. Ferguson turned him into a proper team player. He's been one of the best allround attacking players of his generation.

I agree with Alfonso on this. He had a menace to him when he was younger. A bit like Tevez.

He his more honed now and has some fantastic football in him. Play him up front I say.

i would take Rooney as our starting striker. Rooney, Podolski, Theo and Ozil would cause chaos together for 3 years

Can't agree with this at all. I think his skill set means he could have been a phenomenal single minded striker, much like Zlatan. Instead he ends up chasing back and closing down for large parts of games and I don't think he's that great at dictating play either.

I don't think Rooney ever had that kind of individual talent though. Zlatan is just a freak show. Physically stronger than any defender out there (let alone any other striker) and more technically capable than most world class midfielders who are five inches shorter. Rooney was short and porky and his temper caused him more problems than it solved. Ferguson made him a little bit more predictable but also a lot more rounded.

I agree. He's never learned any position properly and its stopped him from becoming really dominant as a player. He should have been at Shearers level as a striker IMO but he's always fallen just short.
