Trying to put off buying Skyrim again on the basis that I'd wait for the price to come down. Now Big W is selling it for $58 so there's that argument gone too. If I buy it my life will suffer.

I'm part way through the campaign mode on Battlefield 1. It's pretty good. The fighter plane stuff was pretty cool, and it seems they have actual Australian's doing the voices for the Gallipoli bit. Ok, so I looked up the credits. I was thinking to myself while playing the game that the Anzac character Frederick O'Brien - the tough experienced Aussie - looked just like Aussie actor Peter O'Brien. Sure enough, he is the voice actor and they've made the character look just like him. I like that.

I also like the dry humour, e.g. the Aussie character extolling the toughness of the Aussies, then asking - "Oh, you're not a Kiwi are you?" Heh.

Have you played it with mods before? It's easily worth buying again if you haven't. I'd stay away from the PS4 version if possible though. Sony have put forward a bunch of insane restrictions - among them the asinine rule that no external assets are allowed, which means that none of the best mods will ever be released on that console.

Microsoft have made no such demands, which is why Xbox One currently has ten times as many mods up and running. I've been toying around with them for the last few days. It's not comparable to the PC scene of course, but this is a very impressive first step. Some class A stuff has already been ported, like The Forgotten City mod for instance, which is almost worth the whole fee on its own. If you liked Blackreach in the vanilla game you're gonna love this one.

How does it compare to the PS3 version? I bought it last summer based on recommendations on here but haven't even opened the case yet. Any point in just binning it and getting the PS4 version instead given that I don't own an XBox and I don't really play games on my laptop.

I really, really didn't get that game. Bought it, fired it up, played it for a couple of hours and was so utterly bored I never looked at it again. So dreary.

Loved Skyrim, but don't think I want to go through the whole game again on PS4, and especially not without all the mods. Think I may either skip this one entirely, or perhaps pick it up for nothing in about a year.
Going to give Watchdogs a few more hours, but I can't for the life of me see how I'll stay interested enough to finish this one. Basically, I need a new proper game. 🙂

Get the new Battlefield or Civilization instead.

If you bought the game + the DLCs off steam in the past, you get a free upgrade to the remastered edition. Not sure if that's just in the UK though.

Don't feel Doom, Capi. Don't know anything about Titanfall but will look into it. However, I'm a bit weary about advice from you on games after some of the things you have waxed lyrical about in the past. Bayonetta and stuff...

Bayonetta 2 is the single greatest action game ever created.

Doom is possibly the best (non-nintendo system) game released this gen (and I hate fps in general).

Finding it fairly similar to Civ 5 to be honest. I think it needs an expansion or two. Still enjoying it mind you.

Yeah I'm pissed off at Sony about the mods. I only have PS4 and don't have a decent PC to game on, which is a shame because I'd love to check out some of the new stuff. I believe there's a whole new town in one mod. I also want to play Forza Horizon 3. I'll have to hang out at my nephew's place a bit more.

If you haven't played it before, definitely get the PS4 version instead. It still has plenty of mods available and it's a much better game technically. It's been upgraded from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture. The Xb360/PS3 version stuttered badly due to ridiculous restrictions on how much the game could load into memory. It was riddled with crashes, bugs and poor implementation. Those problems are gone now, making it a much more enjoyable experience.

All of the expansions are included in Special Edition too, and they're all terrific. My biggest gripe with the Special Edition so far is that you can't deactivate them at your own choosing though. I never liked having Dawnguard active because it meant that vampires had a knack of showing up after a while and killing NPC:s that weren't flagged as essentials. It happens frequently in some cities like Whiterun.

I'd wait a few months and see if Sony have a change of heart. I think they'll come around eventually.

Thanks Klaus, that's a lot of info. The version I have is the Legendary Edition I think. Does that have the same stuttering issues as the original? I honestly don't even have any idea what kind of game to expect.

I have actually bought a few titles that I want to start playing but haven't found the time to do so in the last year and a half. Bought Witcher 3 and LoU ps4 versions based on recommendations from here but still haven't even opened either. I know LoU is a zombie TWD type game but apparently it's really good and apparently alongside Witcher 3 two of the best games from last year (although I don't have the slightest idea what to even expect gameplay wise in either or what kind of gameplay it would remind me of). Recently bough GTA V and the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection for the PS4 (figure I'll play the first 3 before I buy Uncharted 4 as I haven't played that but apparently it's also really good). I'll probably still be stuck trying to finish these backlog of games on the PS4 well after the PS5 eventually comes out. 😆

One game I am a looking forward to getting is the new Legend of Zelda when it comes out next year on the new Nintendo.
