According to Young Guns, contract talks have begun.

Arsenal have opened negotiations with Wojciech Szczęsny over a new contract, according to respected Polish news agency Sport.pl.

Szczęsny, who’s current contract expires in July, shone in last night’s Carling Cup win over Newcastle United, earning mass applause. Talks had previously stalled over an extension, but the club are believed to have proposed fresh terms of a 5 year deal which would also includes a 20% rise in wages.

Wojciech spoke to Sport.pl after the game. In his usual determined manner, the 20-year-old admitted he is keen to take all his chances and prove he is as good as he says he is.

“One good game does not make me a great goalkeeper, as a poor performance that crossed me. I rarely get a chance, so I try to make the most of it.”

“I look forward to further performances to prove that it was no accident. I hope to keep a place in the League Cup side.”

Negotiations are expected to be concluded before January.

He really sounds like one confident lad, yet he is also impatient. Don't really know what to do with him considering Fabianski's good form all of a sudden. Hope we can tie him down asap.

Wenger was just asked about Szczensy in his pre match press conference. He was asked if an offer to him had been made to which he replied that we had made an offer and were negotiating with him. He went on to say that Szczensy wanted to stay which is a plus and he wanted Scczensy to stay which is also a plus so plus plus is plus and everyone started laughing for some reason. He repeated the same thing when pressed if there was a danger of Szczensy leaving for free.

All in all he sounded positive, was all smiles and seemed confident about keeping Szczensy.

If he wants the guaranteed no. 1 shirt, he is off, Wenger won't ditch Flappy for him.

If he is told he can fight it out with Flappy for it, and he is happy with that he can stay.

He must fancy his chances surely?

we have a good situation if he stays. if his reputation is enhanced enough, he might be able to get a loan to another premiership team where he can get the experience to really challenge fabianski. meanwhile, we'd still have almunia as backup, which is good enough. i really see the loan move as key, cos it's not realistic to expect a kid to become arsenal no.1 after a loan spell at brentford.

That elbow injury is hilarious. Such a small injury an already out for almost a month. Who would have believe it.

Maybe Scznesny is happier at the club with his best friend number 1 now. He was unhappy previously because he was behind someone who wasn't better than him and he thought Fab was the best, better than him anyway.

If I were Wenger I'd promise him the FA Cup and then sell Almunia in january. It's a no-brainer really. Someone deserves to get fired if we lose him.
