I really don't like the rule for penalties! I honestly think it should be as we saw interpreted with Giroud at the weekend. He got the chance, had an awful finish, was brought down - no penalty.
Sanchez hits the ball out of play, is brought down - penalty. Makes no sense he should have a penalty when the ball isn't even in play.

Regarding Giroud, if that had happened in the middle of the field it would have been a foul. I've seen plenty of times players tripping and kicking opponents after the ball has been played being cautioned or having their actions given as fouls.

Sanchez made that penalty by moving his leg in the keeper's path so in that sense it wasn't a penalty. If that was a genuine foul with the ball movement the same then you have to say it was a penalty. There's nothing to say that Sanchez couldn't have recovered the ball and passed it on for another player to score. All we know is the keeper tripped the player without getting the ball. Again, if the keeper had done that outside the box it would be a foul.

Xavi's a better player overall but Pirlo's been going for around a decade now so consistency is a non-issue for both and Pirlo does have a better range of passing due to the position he plays. Personally I think Xabi Alonso has a better range of passing than Xavi as well.

Pirlo is obviously good but his passing is a bit hollywoody. He floats them and it doesn't give so much momentum as when xavi gets into gear n pops it about

How is Scholes and Carrick rated amongst these players? Probably the closest in style England can offer to those pass masters.

nowhere near. Scholes is an extremely tidy player but just doesn't have the range of passing of Xavi and Pirlo. those two guys just know where every other player will be in the next 0.5 seconds - teammates, opponents, the lot. i think our Jack is probably closer in style to Scholes than he would be to a Xavi or Pirlo. we still need that dead-eye passer, our Cesc replacement, to get the offense really moving.

I'm surprised that anyone would suggest Scholes lacks passing range. There are 20 minute highlights reels where he does nothing but hit pinpoint 60 yard lofted cross-field passes to players on the run.

I'd reverse those three. But all great players, pretty much just personal preference.

Scholes wasn't very similar to the other two at all IMO. He was/is an excellent passer, but not in any way shape or form like Pirlo, but his ability to drive through midfield and score was much better than anything Xavi and Pirlo could ever do. I'd rate a prime Scholes ahead of both of them. Was a special player, but also a dirty little ginger cunt.

I've had a look at the German stadia having seen the Dortmund stadium on TV. Huge stadiums there.
