It's always weird seeing United this much on the back foot.

If you can be critical of Fergie its that given all the money, power, time and influence he has at a juggernaut club like Utd, he's never developed a team that is capable of dominating these sorts of games.
i havent seen them outplay a top european side since they did juve in 2003
They set up for teams to 'dominate' them, they love it when teams have a go at them, so that they could easily rip them to shreds on the break. They know exactly what they are doing. It's the easiest way to win trophies.
That's the way to go for us too if we are serious about winning trophies. The style of play (which is based on dominance) that we have adopted over the years is the hardest way to win trophies, and should only be employed by the richest clubs with the world's best players. Why Wenger chose to deviate from our successful counter-attacking style in favour of this style of play at a time when we couldn't compete with the other clubs is still baffles me. I'm glad we are slowly becoming more direct over the past 2 seasons, I hope counter-attacks become our primary form of attack very soon. Or something closer to Dortmund's style, which is half way between possession based game and counter attacks with a slight emphases on playing on the counter.
Can u think of any underdog in the history of the game that has won a major trophy whose game is based on dominance(possession football)? All the ones I can think of played a more negative game; counter attacks, playing percentage football etc Think of Porto, Greece etc Even the top clubs(Madrid, United etc) play that way nowadays
