Basically he just needs to bide his time. Xavi isn't getting any younger and if they don't win things anytime soon Vilanova will be gone and someone else will be brought in to change the whole setup. Players like Cesc and Sanchez don't fit the current system. It's not really their fault that they were signed as political statements.

Song could actually turn out to be a better signing for them.

I think Ronaldo misses Premier League at some level. It's too easy for him in Spain.

I think his unhappy with the way his friends carvalho and kaka have been treated. Been blown way out of proportion though.

He doesn't have to play like Xavi but they need to get rid of someone from the golden generation in order to change the system. Xavi is the oldest one of the midfielders and, arguably, the one who's most important one to their current style.

Rooney + money for Ronaldo next summer. That's my wild hunch. More likely Madrid will offer him silly wages to stay.

Cesc story is interesting. Will be one to follow as the season unfolds. Would love if we could get him back, but we're obviously miles away from that happening as things stand.

But it's not easy to overhaul Barcelona. And he needs to win the CL with them which may well mean having to play Barca.

but xavi isnt the problem is he? i thought it was messi. when both he and fabregas are on the pitch at the same time they tend not to be as good.

Messi's going nowhere so the team around him will have to change instead. But yes, that's their biggest problem at the moment and it's getting increasingly harder to overlook, even allowing for the fact that he's directly involved in nearly hundred goals per season. It's not just Fabregas who underperforms with him. He's rendered most of their forwards toothless. David Villa didn't gel with him either. There were talks about a rift between him and Messi shortly before he broke his leg.

They did last season. I'm sure he wants the Champions League but then again he's already won it with United. My gut feeling is that he liked the challenge and higher tempo in England. Ferguson, who he claims was like a father to him, might be a factor too.

So you reckon it's more likely that Ronaldo will return than Messi?

By the way, this is what I find fustrating about the top two clubs in the world, Barca and Real. They always nick the top players of the Premier League or the players that make our top teams tick. I know we nick them from other leagues but they become stars and top players in England I reckon.

Barcelona have a great youth system but they constantly look at us for reinforcements.

Cesc, Ronaldo, Alonso, Song, Modric, Mascherano and Henry. Then to a lesser extent you have players like Hleb and Arbeloa and Pique.

If Michu tears it up at Swansea I can totally see Real picking him even though he was under their noses for years.

Why did Barca let Cesc, Pique and Jordi Alba leave only for them to pay loads of money to take them back?

It might be because they did not want these guys to learn while making mistakes and cost matches or the fact that they have established players already in their positions...

They didn't have a choice with Cesc or Pique. Not sure what the story with Alba was.

You mean performance wise? I think Messi will outscore and outassist him again but Real have a better squad and a more flexible team. What Barcelona confirmed for me last season is that great strikers don't necessarily win you trophies in modern football. Great midfielders do. Barca used to be unbeatable in that aspect but Xavi and Iniesta weren't that great last season. It's too simplistic to blame it all on Messi's dominance in the team but it's definitely a contributing factor. They're still the best team in the world on their good days, mind.

Don't think you can nick a young player that feels valued from Barcelona. Cesc left because he was sort of ignored. Same for Alba and same for Pique.

Hard to see Cesc giving up easily on fighting his way to being a permanent starter at Barca.
Pride would surely prevent him from skulking back here?
Unless there's a complete reversal of fortunes over the coming seasons with Barca on the slide and us in the ascendancy.
