At the same age cesc had 3 season as out first choice midfielder without suffering any long term injuries. And they are very different players.

Cesc was a freak of nature when he was 18. FWIW I feel he's become less influential as he's gotten older.

Having a player who can dribble, take on and get by the opposition defence is exactly what we need in games where we're being crowded and stifled.

I had a pretty good view of Wilshere and Fabregas in the same team for 10/11. It was quite clear who the better talent was. Argued such at the time but A-M (and, well, here) have proclaimed Cesc as some sort of god.

Anyway different players with different styles. Cesc is an incredible passer. Wilshere is more about taking players on. For the first time in his 80 Arsenal appearances, we gave Wilshere a free license to attack and to worry less about tracking back, and he completely bossed the game. It's no coincidence. We need to give him the same role all the time and he'll show he's the real deal.

So Patters you're comparing Fabregas' worst season with us to Jack's best?

Even if I do that I still can't say that Wilshere was the better player.

Cesc was amazing in every single little thing that he did and its no surprise that we dropped a few levels once he left. His departure was the real killer blow because even with Van Persie last year we played some awful stuff.

For me personally Fabregas has been the best midfielder at this club in the past decade (bar Vieira) and Wilshere has some ways to go before he can take that mantle.

We dropped a few levels when he left? When did that happen? The only season without him so far we finished higher in the league. He's an excellent player but handicapped in some ways that limits him. As I said A-M and some of you guys here just don't want to admit that. If you believe Wilshere can be a once in a generation player you are already saying he has more talent because Fabregas is never that.

He is a useful cog for Barca (no small feat in itself, obviously) but that's it. If he had stayed he would've been allowed to stand out a bit more, but the best chance of doing that was to adopt the fat frank method (which he did very well in 09/10..his first, and IMO only, truly great season). Get forward, shoot on sight and get your numbers up.

I never said that about Wilshere.

The most damning comment about Jack came from Pep himself when he said that if Jack was at Barcelona he would just be another midfielder in the academy.

I think that was bullshit personally and Jack is an absolutely amazing player and will be world class but he isn't there yet and one good game against Swansea doesn't make him the saviour.

Fabregas had those type of games week in and week out for a good 4 years.

When he was off the boil, we were off the boil.

I mean we dropped a few levels in terms of our general play. Fabregas was never part of the problem, he was just surrounded by inferior players like Denilson and Diaby. He had to play an entire season with Eboue on the wings.

Let's just hope Wenger doesn't make the same mistake with Jack and when Jack does reach Fabregas' level that he is surrounded with other world class players

Speaking of shooting on sight, I think we should expect more goals from wilshere now that he's playing in the hole.

They're very different players, and both top quality. It's a pointless comparison since they excel in completely different skills.

Comparing wilshere to Hleb (when he played in the hole 07/08 ) would make more sense.
