I'm not that enthused about just a loan; really hoping for more than that.

I wouldn't totally be against it as he may have a good season and enjoy himself here and might start demanding to stay and that might work in our favour. R.Madrid have been known to let go of their players on the cheap once they want out (if they think they don't have a future there) or are surplus to requirements which he might become if they sign Modric.

With Ramsay still being hit and miss and Wilshire still a good few months away we need to make sure we are well covered in that position

I agree, better a loan than nothing, but it'll still be a bit of a downer knowing he'll probably be off at the end of the season.

Agreed. I really hope we get an end of season buy option. Its totally against Arsene policy to get just a loan only. Don't think he has ever done that. We will really look like a feeder club.

i'd be really disappointed if signs for galatasaray. we could definitely use someone like sahin. especially until wilshere is back at 100%. sahin is brilliant.

Think the situation is different with Wilshere's injury

Can't see the mileage in Madrid giving us an option to buy unless they don't have anyone else looking to take him. Unless it's an option to buy at a rather steep price.

After all, that would give us the leisure of deciding what to do with him at the end of a possibly very successful, or possibly very fraught PL season.

With his future at Madrid presumably still in the balance if they don't want an outright sale, it's hard to see how a loan with an option to buy works well for them.

Right, but say Madrid absolutely will not allow us the option to buy him next summer then surely a loan is better than nothing?

What does the "option to buy" mean? Does that mean they're obliged to sell to us if we requested? Wouldn't they just be able to decide to keep him no matter what clause is on the contract?

We agree a set fee, that if we offer, they have to accept. Then down to us and the player to agree terms and the deal goes through.

what shady said and if you think back to baptista/reyes. we had the option to buy him and they had the option to buy reyes, both teams declined.

Arsenal have had phone contact with Nuri Şahin today. He's keen to come. Madrid happy to loan him. Şahin has rejected Spurs

😆 shitty spurs

don't know this Chap, but this has me a little concerned

"Mourinho said the size of a club such as Madrid makes it challenging for young players to break through, especially when they do not perform well at the beginning, which he hinted was the case with Sahin.

“Real Madrid is very difficult. It is not an easy club, because we demand a lot. We have great players, and when you don’t start well, it is difficult to do it.”"

Maureen clearing a few important things up there.
Ball in Sahin's court, which should be a good thing. Madrid also have a history of letting out of favor players leave for very decent fees, which should be right up Wenger's street. 🙂
Hope we are really keen on this to happen! Wenger can be quite persuasive when he feels like it. That will be important I guess since there clearly is interest from other clubs.

If we take him on loan and he does well and settles we'll certainly be in the driving seat to take him permanently next summer, clause or no clause.

He got injured in pre-season and didn't play until November.

My gut feeling is that Mourinho never really wanted him either.

Neither did he want Altintop. They sacked the guy who signed both of them last season and gave control to Mourinho to deal transfers himself isnt it? Was the first time Madrid ever did something like that too, never gave such luxury backing to previous managers.

Would be absolutely sensational if we sign Sahin permanently instead

a friend of mine who's a die hard real madrid fan says mourinho never really rated sahin. never gave him a proper chance, even when he was match fit.

Latest comments sounds like they want to shift him out permanently, would absolutely love it if we get Sahin but just don't see it, we are stocked in CM.

If only we could ship out 1 or 2 of Diaby, Rosicky, Ramsey...

Rosicky getting a new contract is a joke. Should have left this summer.

If we bring in CMs I think Ramsey will go on loan.

The guy who was arguably our best player for large parts of the season getting a new contract was a joke?

Cant really blame Mourinho though. He has great players in those positions, and the general reaction when both Sahin and Altintop went to Madrid was that they'd be spending a lot of time sitting on the bench. The players and their agents should have had more sense.

It is a joke you saying that Rosicky was 'arguably our best player for large parts of the season'.

I was a bit worried that we'd actually rely on him but Rosicky's fine as a squad player.

Hope we sort this out quickly. Other clubs are bound to start sniffing around soon.

The thing is that Rosicky was NOT 'fine' as a squad player. He was quite poor actually. It wasn't until he was given a run in the team as a STARTER that he actually started putting in better than average performances. Even during that run, where he was pretty good IMO, he failed to score or assist enough for the position he played.

😆

Honestly whats wrong with admitting how good Rosicky was last year? Go dig back the match threads from Feb to the end of the season, he single handedly brought us back from the death. Whenever he was off form we suffered, our whole team clicked because of him.

Exactly. He was key in the run that helped us overtake Tottenham. Some people have short memories it seems.

It's absolute nonsense.

Quick search shows that on the Arsenal.com POTM poll he finish 2nd, 1st and 1st for Feb, March and April respectively.

Wasn't posting here at the time, I figured the praise he was getting was universal but guess OMT disagreed?

I think Rosicky played very well for about a month or two last season. He looked revitalized. But, overall, that doesn't make it a great season for him. Nor do I think a month or so justfies a new contract. He works hard, but he's not good enough at the role he plays.

Our best players last season at different times.

Rosickys fine. Good squad player, top attitude and work ethic. Very happy for him to make 20-25 appearances (not starts) next season. Hopefully Cazorla can provide some extra quality though.

When it comes to Rosicky theres almost noone who gives him enough credit in OMIT.

If he singlehandedly won matches for us aka against Milan and Spurs, he will be deemed "decent performance" or something. When he was good aka against Newcastle people say hes poor.

he singlehandedly won matches for us?
