Interesting perspective from Hamilton. Thanks, Asterix.
The key for F1 is that the lesser teams continue to put pressure on the big three to commit to more aggressive cost cut measures, to achieve spending parity. At present lesser teams are spending about 1/3 the big 3’s budgets (around $400m+) per annum. These massive budgets and the ability to invest in non-engine parts, crews and the drivers is what’s driving the dominance and repetitiveness in the sport. The minute you achieve spending parity, then it becomes mainly about the drivers.
Although people argue that the revenue in formula one all comes from these various technologies in the cars the reality is that teams aren’t profitable. The more you make, the more you spend. Smaller teams like Haas are breaking even, and being resourceful by sourcing parts from different technical houses, and achieving good performance per dollar metrics.
My position on F1 is much the same as in football. More FFP please.
