i never associated the 5th taker with being weak. i always thought it was good to have somebody you can count on last if the others didn't fold because he would be the one to end it if the oppo missed one. if chelsea had a good peno taker going 5th when they faced manyoo the big cup would have been in west london earlier.

when should your big player take the kick?

i remember in the arsenal/roma shootout that eduardo went first and missed. rvp was second. but for roma totti the big man captain went 5th.

I don't understand the Ronaldo criticism for last night really. He could have taken it earlier under lesser pressure and scored, and Alves may have still missed the fifth.

Moreover there is just one man that Portugal may have wanted taking a penalty had it been tied going to the last spot kick.

Drogba took the 5th one for Chelsea in the CL final, i don't think he would be lambasted like this had Bayern won 4-2 with Terry missing an earlier one.

Terry himself bottled it when taking the 5th one in 2008 against Man Utd.

Ronaldo does try and play to the galleries but i don't think he deserves the vitriol directed at him from certain quarters since last evening.

As a spaniard I'm very happy with this team. The way they play the ball out of the back is majestic. We lack good finishers unfortunately, but the way we dominate other teams is nothing short of unbelievable.

Iniesta and Ronaldo both bottled it during the game.

Chile. Although I wasn't born there my family left due to political reasons and it was a matter of time before we came back. I was raised supporting the Chilean national team since I can remember.

I still feel Spanish games very intensely, mind you. You don't get to choose your national team, you can just feel it.

I'm always getting into arguments here in Toronto with indians/asians who wear the spanish jersey and mock actual portuguese people, for example, about their defeat. Clueless cunts. Don't know what it feels like when it's your people out there.
