I didn't have an issue with it today. He was in pretty good positions, and one shot was just wide and the other was blocked. The point is that he's one of our best players right now (for better or worse), and he should be playing regardless of the contract wrangles. Agree with you that his attitude and behaviour has been spot on. He obviously wants to prove a point.

This attitude should be created and fostered by competition though, not by trying to get someone to sign on the cheap

His attitude has always been spot on. Never hides, always tries to make things happen. Hands down our best attacker this season.

Yeah. Once Theo leaves, I'll pretty much lose my patience. He's effective, productive, about the only player you feel that can score in every game or make an assist and has played in England for a long time.

Must keep him.

Giroud becomes so much more threatening when he has someone that can pick him up in the box and Theo is the best crosser we have.

they were just balls put in the box, anyone could've put them in. giroud made those goals himself. i dont agree with giving assists on corner kicks, either. these are just low percentage balls put into the area, and not meaningful chances created by an incisive pass.

not sure i get your point. good corners are better than bad ones. i just dont think they should count as an assists.

Although how the second is a percentage ball I don't know, plopped right onto Giroud's head. You implying it was a lucky pass that got it there?

The first corner was obviously a set play, with Mertesacker "blocking off" Giroud's marker. Similarly the second one, Walcott looked up and had three options and he picked Giroud. I get infuritated with Theo as well at times, but to not giving him credit here is a bit outrageous.

An assist is what it is - the final pass preceding a goal. It doesn't mean you created the goal. It's fair enough to say Theo doesn't "create" in the same sense as Cazorla or Fabregas, but he does notch up assists and goals much more regularly than any other wide players we've had for the past six or seven years, and that's very hard to explain away. He contributes with end product in a team that is lacking end product.

Klaus, you have to give the boy that. He's not as productive as a Fabregas, but against all the other players we've had he tends to outperform them. Now, I would like to see better players than Theo on our team, but he's the best we have right now and we should exploit him

I don't buy into the idea that a through ball or whatever is any more creative than a good cross.

There's a bit of a difference in the availability of players that can make either kind of pass effectively, though, right?

"More creative" is the wrong way to look at it. It's simply harder to play a well-weighted defence splitting pass, but you also get a higher calibre of chance against a solid defensive side.

Most teams can dredge up a quick winger who can get around his fullback and whip it in either at head height or into the "corridor of uncertainty" from time to time.

And what of the player who makes an off the ball, diversionary run which pulls away a defender or two, thus creating an easier channel or avenue for a 'pre-goal pass'? Does he get a half assist? And the keeper who makes an excellent save before hurling the ball out for a quick 3 or 4 pass counter attack that leads to a goal, does he get a quarter assist or something?

Lets not get bogged in the details. Just making it all unnecessarily complicated. An assist is the final pass before a goal, and it goes to whoever makes it, regardless of what occurred beforehand basically. Or, in the case of penalties, the one who wins it, if it is converted. No goal = No assist. Simple.

Theo made a good assist.

Of course, Some assists may be perceived as more difficult than others, but in the same way, some goals are more difficult to score than others, e.g. A Pappiss Cisse 30 yard screamer of last season vs Chelsea compared to chicaritos scrambled dirty goal vs Villa last weekend where he basically stumbled it into the net with his bum. Both crossed the line, both given as goals.
