Problem is that (just like RvP in our system) Drogba is just so damn effective in Chelseas system, other attackers look like crap beside him.

Then, factually, the way Barcelona plays is the most effective way to play since they have won more trophies than any other team in decades.

What are you talking about Rex?
They're not even the top team in their country either currently or all time.

Oh yeah, you guys are going to read that a lot over the coming year. 😉

Rex, just like you, is suggesting that the winning team is the team with the right/best approach. In that case, Barcelona have easily had the right/best approach in recent times.

Crazy to bring Torres up. Bad enough that he was omitted from the starting XI for the final. Seems to me there are many other strikers they could've had for 50m who would've given them more, including in the crunch matches.

Yep. I believe Tony is just too disillusioned with our lack of spending he tries to big whichever team up who wins something major.

Come now Snowball, don't you know some winning teams are more winning than others?

Thats fair enough Pest, and although- contrary to popular belief- Barcelona are not the best team in the known universe, I have never said their system is bad you can't argue with trophies and Barca have snared a few.
I have however always maintained that their system is good for them but not for us as-

  • It requires highly technically proficient players.
  • We play in the most physically demanding league in the world.

Now as everyone knows technically proficient players who are also physically robust and powerful ain't cheap (or plentiful) Barcelona (and Wengers) system will never work for us, stark choices will have to be made.

Either a lot more money will have to be spent on the team or the system and style will have to be changed to a less ambitious counter attacking one.

With the tight-fisted leeches who now infect our club we have very little prospect of ever increasing spending to an effective level and also Wenger has so far shown he is unwilling or unable to change systems, so we're fucked.
