Not enough quality competition, traing probably becomes too relaxed... Only places we have healthy competition is LB & CB (could do with more) rest are pretty much guaranteed to start when fit, we need to bring in some quality to keep players on their toes. Fact that we are desperate for Walcott to come back say it all really...

I do worry about this over-hyping of Chamberlain, I've done it myself and when he had that couple of games earlier in the season it was very hard not to but he's since shown his age and inexperience and people need to calm down and stop acting like he's the solution to many of our problems. If he doesn't live up to these unrealistic expectations I can see alot people slating him in 2 years saying things like "he's had 2 years now and he hasn't reached the levels we hoped" despite the fact he'll only be 20 in 2 years time. Its the same old bullshit, rinse and repeat.

Im afraid that is wengers fault, if rooney had signed for us as a teenager wenger would make even rooney look like a average young player after a few years at arsenal.

Apart from fabregas name another teenage signing that has gone on to be at "fabregas's level". I can only think of ashley cole and song (debatable) and neither were attacking players... And with british players the jury is still out on wenger

Being British doesn't matter.

Lets not forget Van Persie and Ashley Cole (was here all along but Wenger still nurtured him).

Well, van Persie (and Vieira) was 20 and Sam's referring to teenager signings but obviously discounting Wenger's influence on either was huge. It's like discounting Jose's influence in getting the best of John Terry and Lampard, player's don't stop developing at the age of 21.

The whole point i was making was chambo being a teenager and by the time of 20/21 as qs mentioned getting slated for not reaching expectation and the same would have happened with rooney as it has done with walcott (due to lack of confidence and playing time). Ill give you anelka/petit and thuram (all french we are talking about the british chamberlain) but henry was signed as a 22 yr old so he wasnt developed under wenger in the vital teenage years of 18/19. Same with weah at monaco. And for all these success stories you have a denilson/bendtner/senderos etc.

Wenger brought Henry into the first team at Monacco when he was 18 though, even if the former left a year later.

I don't really care about them being British or not.

And there's always going to be more failure than successes at the level Arsenal operate at. Even Barcelona have more duds than successes relative to their own standards.

Game tomorrow... only game of the season for which you can say without any exaggeration that our whole season stands on: realistically, even on day one we could guess 3-5 it is for us. and these are the exact possibilities tomorrow, with the special condition that it is all down to us. Win - get the "ultimate prize" (😉). Draw - get 4th, but probably not 3rd. Lose - could very well be 5th.

One day to that massive game (well - a few hours, really) and no one talks about the game 😆.

I'll be very, very happy and relieved if all goes well tomorrow. Seriously hope for some show of character, some real fight. Quite worried, TBH, but I think it is doable. Fingers crossed.

I'm tempted to just not even watch it, not look at any results, and just wait until next season to see how many players we've signed.

I don't want to talk about it really. There's no glory to be won tonight, just a survival of sorts.

Feels more like a relegation battle—relegation from the CL—than a chance to put our stamp on anything.
