When discussing players, they love to talk about how so and so is a _____ international. As if that means they must be quality. Please. Anyway watched both today's games. First was fairly dull although probably to be expected as, alongside us, Poland and Greece are probably the worst teams in the tournament. Felt sorry for Szezsny but can't really argue with a red card for that. He knew it aswell as he pretty much walked off the field before the card was even given.

Russia surprised me. Didn't expect them to look that good and they could well be dangerous for some of the more fancied sides later in the tournament, as they were 4 years ago really. Arshavin was fantastic I felt, real shame he's not been able to produce that sort of form at club level for a couple of seasons. Didn't realise Milan Baros was still going. Haven't heard anything of him since he left the Premiership although a quick look tells me he's only 30, thought he was about that last time I watched him for some reason!

Looking forward to day 2. Could be 2 cracking games.

I reckon Ukraine are the worst team in the tournament. Greece are a strange one for me. They don't have any big name players, but they are difficult to beat. I still think they can give the Czechs a tough game and with a little luck may possibly qualify as runner up in the group.

Russia looked good yesterday. The only team I think are comfortably better in the tournament is Spain. Russia have the personnel to match anyone else IMO. Some of their play was great to watch.

Today will be a good indicator as to how much of a chance Holland have. Still not convinced by them at all and Denmark have a team capable of causing an upset. Really looking forward to the game.

I thought the Czech poor defending made Russia look better than they actually were. They didn't put pressure on the ball and their midfield was easily run over. Arshavin looked better because he played as a playmaker, dropping into pockets of space to get the ball and then take on defenders to put crosses in or feed Kerzhakov and Dzagoev with through balls, as opposed to being the guy who makes the runs to get in behind the defense when he played with us. The latter, to me, seems much more physically draining. In any case, both teams looked tired after 70 minutes, so I'll reserve my judgement on Russia until they come against any decent team. They should definitely progress from the group stages, that's for sure.

Agree with Est more or less. Thought the Czechs defending was really poor and made Russia look better than they really are.

One is looking forward to a game long weeks only for the players to fuck everything up in the first 15 minutes, lovely. Gebre Selassie, our right back, was good. He plays for Liberec, a team that won the league over here. He was great all season and is looking for a transfer after the Euro. Pilar was pretty good too, he already signed for Wolsburg as far as I know. The rest looked poor, looked like it wasn't in their legs anymore.

Was just about to ask about Czech's right back. Looked decent yesterday. Worth a punt with Sagna likely to miss the start of the season and Jenkison being the only form of natural cover? Wouldn't cost too much I'd imagine.
