"Zinadine" Cygan? a bit unfair Y, he wasn't even our most rotten central defender of the Wenger era, that honour goes to Igor Stepanovs as Capi says.
Even his name invokes an image of grotesque horror.

Our most perfect goalie statistically was (Super)Mart Poom- Played 1 conceded 0.

In my mind Cygan was a truly horrific player 🙂

He was raped a few high profile times by Drogba (which defender wasn't) and that stuck in peoples minds.
He was also very unlucky with injuries.

Cygan was okayish. Better than Sylvestre and Stepanovs.

Cygan had spells where he was one of the best defenders in England. It's easy to forget because he had other (and longer) spells where he was genuinely terrible too.

He wasn't a premiership defender though.

He almost always performed well in Europe whenever called upon.

I think his biggest problem was that he had no longevity. His form came and went, just like with Djourou. He could keep United in his pocket one game and then look like a slower, more cumbersome version of Oleg Luzhny a couple of weeks later.
