Ivanovic facing three-match ban for punching Maloney in build-up to winner against Wigan
Branislav Ivanovic is set to be banned for three matches for punching Shaun Maloney in the stomach.
The incident came as Wigan attacked moments before Chelsea broke down the field to score the stoppage time goal.
Juan Mata's already-controversial winner against Wigan on Saturday has been revealed to be even more of an unfair blow to the Latics survival hopes than it first appeared.
Referee Mike Jones missed the off-the-ball incident but FA disciplinary chiefs have been made aware of the incident and seem likely to reprimand Ivanovic.
The versatile defender will play be available in Monday's west London derby against Fulham.
But the FA will review the footage over the next 24 hours before deciding whether to retrospectively punish Ivanovic.
If found guilty of misconduct, Ivanovic will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham on Sunday and the Barclays Premier League clashes against Arsenal and QPR .
Ivanovic scored earlier in the game with an offside goal, before Mata also struck from an offside position.
The Serbian defender has been one of Chelsea's best players in recent weeks and could miss vital domestic games as the Blues battle to get back into the top four and fight for the FA Cup.
The loss of Ivanovic is another defensive blow for boss Roberto Di Matteo, who is set be without Ashley Cole, too.
After being left out of Di Matteo's squad again for Monday's Barclays Premier League clash at Fulham due to an ankle injury, Cole is now doubtful for Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham.
The England left back could also be unavailable for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona three days later.
Cole missed training on Sunday, limping out of Chelsea's Cobham training centre after treatment on his sprained ankle.
He will be back on Monday for more treatment but Di Matteo has told deputy Ryan Bertrand that he could face Barca.
The 31-year-old suffered the injury last week and was originally left out of Saturday's victory over Wigan as a precaution.
But Chelsea captain John Terry, who missed the Wigan match with cracked ribs, is back in Di Matteo's squad for the trip to Fulham.
