I'd be happy enough with bringing in giroud and selling rvp provided we use the cash upside to get an attacking mid. Dzagoev!

Don't be silly now. Giroud is the level of backup we're supposed to have for Robin, not a replacement.

You're both silly.

  1. How often do we replace departing players with superior personnel?

  2. Any money made on VP's sale will go towards buying multiple players rather than one top player.

it's such a crap policy. having 1 outstanding individual is better than having 3 average ones. hopefully these "changes" to the wage structure ivan mentioned will slant us towards buying/retaining the former again.

We've never operated like that.

Be real anyway, there isn't a single player we could sign who would emulate Van Persie's 2011-2012. It'd have to be a Messi or Ronaldo level signing to get those 30+ goals in the PL.

Even RVP won't emulate Van Persie's 2011-2012.

And the first half of 2012....

His insane scoring rate was pretty much exclusively in 2011. Then it went back to 'normal'.

Anyway, Telegraph says announcement within 48hrs on this one.

Pointless signing... we dont know how to play with a target man & even if we did ths one isnt that good, would rather we signed a poacher ala Eduardo

Well, he did just score a bucketload in France.

Pointless signing, I should smack you through the internet anything that can get rid of Chamakh, give RVP a rest and also give him some decent competition for the starting postion at CF is OK in my book.

I think Giroud will be a great option for us. It's been ages since we've had a truly powerful striker who is direct and not a pansy

It was still insane, just not quite as insane as before.

We havn't had a decent target man since Adebayor, and when he could be arsed he was quality for us.

No opinion on Giroud cos i've barely seen him, but we are crying out for a physical forward who is good in the air. Good target men can transform teams but they are hard to find.

Hey im all for getting rid of Chamakh, but we would just be bringing in a better target man.. No point, that style just doesnt work for us imo. If a strikers technique isnt up to scratch he wont make it here. Doesnt seem mobile enough either..

@[deleted] - dont think he would get anywere near those figures here

seems more likely that RvP is leaving aswell & if this guy is first choice things could get ugly...

Timbo. Good website you can use to judge a player

www.youtube.com

Good find. Might give up watching games now and just use this 'yutoob' thingy.

Yep it's very versatile. probably best to sign up cos you have to be over 18 for most of the vids you'll be searching for.

Dunno, for me Ade was quality because on form he had great mobility and was generally a right pain for oppositions to handle with his energy. When he got lazy he was shit... dont see Giroud in the same mould..

The goal per game ratio is what I assumed the boys were referring to when they said he wouldn't repeat it. 1:2 isn't all that unbelievable.

He can bang goals and we create umpteen chances in an average game. Don't see why a 'poacher' would add anything more.

He has been better than 1:2 in 2012 though, Skippa.

I hope Podolski and this chap are direct replacements for Bendtner and Chamakh, doubt it though.

Has good poacher instincts 🙂

Aye, that's the trouble of finding a quality target man if you're a big club. You have to find someone that is pretty good at everything and has a huge array of attributes. Mobility is a key one for sure.

If he comes we will have theoretically added 20 goals already this summer. Top business.

Should have gone harder for Kagawa.

BBC saying that we are on the verge of signing him now too.

Giroud is coming and Robin ain't leaving.

So true, because we finally buying quality signing people assume somebody his going to leave to me that's a small club mentality.

I'd just like to point out:

van Persie
Giroud

Podolski
Gervinho

Walcott
Oxlaide-Chamberlain

Miyaichi
Park

If Robin is indeed staying and we complete this giroud signing then of course it would be a much stronger attack than last year. Creating goals is not always about the midfielders - the strikers play a key role with their movement. We played last season with only 1 striker. Having 3 relatively established ones would be a nice upgrade. I still maintain that the key signing has to be a top DM. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much hope on that front. A creative midfielder is badly needed too. But let's hope there is more to come.

---vPersie
Giroud Podolski

i dont think vpersie will be able to continue his insane scoring spree, similarly arteta will not be as good next season so in the longer term if we arent going to get an attacking midfielder i wouldnt mind vpersie behind those two, see how it turns out. And then if we do get mvila then song mvila and arteta/wilshere behind them.

wengers building a left footed army

What are you pointing out?

if your talking to me? then I'm saying I wouldn't mind vpersie becoming a creative attacking player behind podolski and giroud. That is if wenger doesnt buy a creative midfielder
