On a slightly different note, does anyone have a Amazon fire 8 HD? I'm looking for a cheapish tablet where I can read/watch TV and I figure it's a good way to take advantage of my Prime membership.

Also how easy is it to circumvent the restrictions and install the Play Store and stuff like Sky Go?

I dropped my Xperia Z3 two times, and the glass shattered both times. U like other phones, you can't use it if there's a crack, as the screen becomes unresponsive.

Didn't really want to make a new thread so just thought I'd ask this in here.
Can any of you techy types recommend a good, free audio file converter? I've got a whole bunch of wav files I want to convert to mp3 for my phone (finally ditching the walkman). I can't seem to find a well rated free app/program that will convert the whole file, or the number of files I have.

Can just use iTunes. Wav is much higher q than mp3 though...why convert?

@ coombs - not enough space on my sd card for wav. I use the wav files for home listening, but I want to convert my collection to mp3 for the phone when I'm out and about.

Sorry missed the first part of your reply Coombs. I didn't know you could convert in itunes. I don't really use itunes much but I do have it on my notebook so will give that a crack first. Cheers for tbe tip.

The new Apple phones are so uninspiring, even the X, and very overpriced. When you look past the gimmicks it doesn't do anything my iPhone 6 Plus doesn't do, except animated Emojis of course. it's not like apps and software are so demanding that you need all that power.

It's actually packed with tons of features, but I have two 7s and see absolutely no reason to get a phone until the XI or Galaxy s9 (or sX) comes out.
Edge-to-Edge with Dolby-vision - that's cool, but I'd rather all of that on my tablet. Wireless charging. Again, cool, but battery life isn't my biggest gripe in life, so don't need it.

The big hardware jumps I appreciated in phones were 3G, 4G and the jump to 4 inch screens. Mostly its been software advances like Whatsapp, Spotify/iMusic, Uber that have been most impactful

Tons of features but how many would materially change how you interact with your smart phone?

I agree though - software advances over the past 4 years have been the game changers, I reckon if you continue to use a smart phone from 2014 you're not missing out on that much except for a better camera and possible battery life.

Wireless charging and edge to edge display has been done, it's not exactly innovative. Also, give me Touch ID over Face ID anyday. The only reason they've ditched the former is because they couldn't find a way to incorporate it! Just not worth it at those prices.

I'm still rocking my 3rd hand iPhone 5c, I've seen no need to upgrade yet tbh. I like the look of the google pixel and the galaxy S range, that will probably be my next phone when I eventually upgrade.

Recent iPhones have been pretty underwhelming, there has literally been nothing innovative about them. Apple has been following the trend (or just introducing gimmicks) for a long time in both computing and telecommunications.
