Its not much about the blinkfeed. If you don't want it it can completely not bother you. You won't even see it unless you intentionally scroll there for news. And you can set the update to only over wifi so it doesn't eat up your data when you don't even use it.

Its a nice touch though, ONLY IF it has more options of news sources. Right now, other than Uefa and ESPN the other soccer sources are shit. Its the same for all other topics like gaming and electronics

Not a new phone per se, but I got a second generation Nexus 7 the other day.

Extremely sweet hardware, no Apple bullshit.

Awesome! I'm considering getting one, wanted to get the new kindle but I think the nexus would be a better investment.

I thought about the Kindle Paperwhite, but with that you just get an ebook reader, albeit a lovely one with a passive display. The Android Kindle app is pretty good these days.

This thing is a beauty. Nice touch, lovely design, softkeys are good, sound is ok, battery life is ok, video is smooth and the display is wonderfully crisp. Plus you get gesture typing from Google Keyboard.

And when you plug it into a computer, it looks like USB storage not some magical locked-down media filing cabinet.

I don't use an iPad so I can't make a direct comparison, but I'm pretty chuffed with it.

I'm definitely getting a Nexus, if I get a tablet in the near future.

I'm not too happy with my Samsung Galaxy S4, it's got too many extra features that I would never use. Until I manually updated the firmware recently, it had bugs. Should have rather got the HTC One, better build and better camera.

Apple announced the iPhone 5s and 5c yesterday. The 5c is supposed to be a "low cost" model but it costs $549 and $649 for 16 and 32 GB models. Not quite sure what their strategy is. They should rather focus on releasing one phone a year which offers more value.

I'm not sure Apple ever described the 5C as a low cost model. Journalists decided that an iPhone with a plastic exterior would be a low cost iPhone. All they have done is update some of the antennas on the iPhone 5 and the front camera and rebranded it as a 5C. In prior years, they've kept the previous phone and sold it at at the 5C's price point. So relative to prior years, consumers are actually better off.

I'll pick up a 5S in the next few months. Will be a nice upgrade from my 4 which has served me well. Like the convenience of fingerprint for unlocking and store access

Nothing much of interest in the new feature set. ThinkPads have had fingerprint scanners for ten years and the new camera stuff is done and dull. Porting iOS to 64 bit is a good achievement if it's relatively stable and bug free. Perhaps Apple's days of disruption are over.

Nobody's disrupting in the phone market. Hope this fingerprint scanner has better Han my Touchpad's. even the S4 had nothing to go crazy about.

They're all blending into the same thing. They all seem to be focusing on gimmicks (the eye stuff with the S4 is uterly pointless with the exception of smart stay), speed and perhaps the camera. But none of that is groundbreaking in the slightest.

Better integration with technology around us would be cool, though I guess that's more down to other technology than the phones themselves. I like that my S4 acts as a universal remote for TV/Sky for example. I know my brother can control the temperature in his house with his phone too.

Do want, is there any advantage holding out for a 4g version over a regular wifi?

I'm due an upgrade so I'll probably get the 5S a week or 2 after launch. Kind of disappointed with the lack of anything interesting on it. Suppose the finger print thing is handy.

For me, nowadays I choose my phone more out of habit I think. Was really happy with my HTC Desire HD, so I upgraded to an HTC One X. I've had Samsung, Nokia and Eriksson phones before. I suppose I even would be hooked on the Iphone had I got one 5 years or so. Will probably stay with HTC until I get a disappointing experience. Top phones these days are fairly similar anyway when it comes to what you can do with them.

Probably, but I deliberately chose the wi-fi version because I don't want a net connection when I'm on the train in the morning. That helps me focus on reading, I have enough trouble coping with social media checkitis as it is (and you should check my OMITT "hours online" some time).

If I have a particular reason for it to be connected, eg to stream video, I can just hotspot my phone.

Have to say I absolutely love my HTC One, great bit of kit.

My favourite phone was a Samsung clamshell flip phone like the one below, except it was black and silver and had an orange led screen on the outside. The hinge got so loose on it that I could open it with a flick of the wrist; could go full Bauer.

i have the htc one and i'm happy. compared it to a friend's iphone 5 and all i can say is what grown man would want an iphone 5 instead of a htc one? the iphone is a toy for children.

Was thinking about getting a new phone. I think I'm going to wait for the announcement of the Nexus 5 before making my decision though.
