Seriously. In almost two decades of watching Arsenal closely I can only really think of two games where it felt shockingly obvious that the referee was trying to do us in. That's one of them. The other time was Phil Dowd's performance in that 4-4 game against Newcastle.

Barca scored an own goal from a corner shortly before van Persie got sent off though. We had a win in the first leg and still had the advantage. Mike Riley for the end of the unbeaten run is still the worst for me. At least two United players should have been off that day: RVN for the stamp on Cole's knee, Ferdinand for the last man foul on Ljungberg, and maybe Neville for persistent fouling on Reyes. And yet, he gave a pen against us for Rooney getting blown over by the wind.

Remember taking the morning off work to watch that Barcelona second leg and having to watch a shitty stream because it wasn't on TV here. Internet was terrible where I was living at the time so the game was basically a series of still pictures. Kind of like watching a very slow flip book.

Never been so angry watching a football match before or since. Thinking about it and Riley's obvious cheating and corruption still makes my blood boil.

Klaus must have erased that game from his memory, no other club football match I've seen was even remotely as badly officiated.

Only games to come close were South Korea during WC 2002

They made him head of the referees body instead.

That match had a lasting legacy too as it basically told other teams that you can kick us as much as you like and get away with it. And that's exactly what happened.

Yeah when Klaus mentioned those 2 matches I thought of this match straight away. No way Riley can explain any of his decisions were anything close to fair

Anyone can beat anyone in a one off game, we didn't progress to the next round, therefore, this game should not have this amount of respect it deserves.

Beating Milan over 2 legs in 2008 was a far greater achievement.
