GM, he said stuff like we have played three games in a row on a poor pitch, and twice on a poor pitch at the Stadium of Light but still better than in Milan. He has referred to the poor pitch plenty.
Here's the quote:
on the team’s display…
We put in a committed performance and gave absolutely everything that was left in our legs. It was a very difficult game. We had a very unfortunate schedule because we played away in the Champions League then straight away [we played] away again on some very difficult pitches.
We fought hard today. I felt we were a bit unlucky because there was a 100 per cent penalty for us that Mr Webb missed and then the first shot [for Sunderland] was a goal.
Then we had to chase the game and take every gamble and we were caught on the counter for the second goal. We had a lot of possession but didn’t create a lot, which was down to fantastic defending from Sunderland.
I think y va put it better than I did. There's a difference between saying the pitch affected the result, which Wenger has done in the past away to Wigan and Old Trafford and just saying that the pitch affected our game as a throw away point in a wider interview.
You can't keep ranting and raving all the time, it's silly.
This is what I consider a proper excuse:
The groundsman had as bad a day as us," Wenger sniped.
"You will see us in a different shape when we come back and a on different pitch.
"The pitch is a disgrace. You have players worth £20-25million and you cannot play a pass without it bouncing."
He said, as his team lost 4-0 at Old Trafford. 2008.
